hello to all!
I am from India. I just rooted my i9100g using the clockworkmod recovery 5 kernel given here http://androidforums.com/galaxy-s2-...2437-galaxy-s2-gt-i9100g-all-things-root.html .

The following are the details of my system -
Android version: 2.3.6
Baseband ver: I9100GDDKL1
Kernel version: 2.6.35.7 - TH codeworkx@cyanogenmod #4
Build number: GINGERBREAD.XWLC2
I want to run jellybean on my phone. I am a complete newbie. what steps should i follow? do i need to first flash an ICS rom and then JB? do i need to change my kernel? I read a lot of stuff, but there is so much available that i am confused on exactly what ONE procedure i need to follow. please help!
Thanks in advance! :)

Welcome to the forum.

All the jellybean custom roms require the ics bootloader so you'll need to update your phone to ics first.
Download your firmware from here and then flash with Odin
SamMobile Firmware Page
It's the same procedure as when you rooted. Put the firmware .tar in pda, connect your phone while in download mode and press start.

You will then need to root using the ics kernel from here
[KERNEL][GT-I9100G][GB+ICS/LP7] ClockworkMod Recovery 5 - xda-developers

You can then download and flash your jellybean Rom of choice.

I'll move this over to all things root:)

Hello,
I just installed 4.0.3 firmware and am getting excessive battery usage. Charge used to last 2 days, now 3 hours and 80% gone.

First of all, Thanks for the speedy reply! :)
I am downloading the one firmware with android 4.0.3, then will flash it using odin 3.04. That will install ICS right?
I have a doubt, for the Kernel part, which one out of these two -

ICS - 5.5.0.4 Download (built from sources, cwm backup works fine, mmc erase bug fixed)
ICS LP7 - 5.5.0.4: Download (hacked LP7 kernel, cwm backup doesn't work, mmc erase bug present)

should i flash for the firmware with PDA - I9100GXXLPQ and CSC - I9100GODDLP7 given on the first link you provided?

Have you performed a reset of your phone since upgrading to ics. It's usually needed to get things running smoothly again.

Yeah that's the right firmware, flashing with Odin will upgrade your to ics. Use the ics - 5.5.0.4 kernel NOT the lp7 one.

I have flashed that ICS firmware successfully and also flashed the ICS - 5.5.0.4 (non LP7) Kernel. I am trying to root using samsung quick root. When i press the 'root' button, it is giving me following error message :
Error : Make sure you have flashed Insecure Kernel!
I have enabled USB debuging. Also in the kernel version, it is showing the following
3.0.8-TH
codeworkx@cyanogenmod #1
SMP PREEMPT Mon Jun 11 19:40:06 CEST 2012
Should I flash the Kernel once more or do i need to follow any other procedure to root? (btw samsung quick root successfully rooted my phone on 2.3.6 with Kernel: GB - 5.0.2.8)

UPDATE - I managed to root it using CWM :)

ok so finally I rooted it using volume up+home+power key and selecting root.zip from sd card. so finally i am good to go! :-)
Do you have any suggestions for a good and stable jellybean rom?
