Just said goodbye to Note going with S3

I just called best buy after talking to my buddy at AT&T and I preordered my Galaxy S3 for 539.00 and I am using my buy back from the Note and it will cost me 240.00 or so.. I am tired of the slowness of the Note and want the better camera (yes it is better it is still 8 MP but it is the same as the iphone 4s) and also want the 2gig of ram and the faster processor and also want the features.. I am kind of let down that the Note still hasent been updated yet and also there is a New Note coming in late fall if I need to upgrade again using the buy back program. I love the note dont get me wrong but I am tired of waiting for everything and I love the new camera features and the video you can play while you brose and the speach and everything.. I thought that Samsung would focus on the Note as the Premier Phone but that is going away (I think they found issues with it and that is why the note 2 is coming out so fast) but that is ok.. Anyway I cant wait for the S3

Good luck with the new phone, brah. Let us know how you like the GS3 vs the Note. I'm happy with my Note so I don't really care about the GS3 release.

GS3 has all that added power but provides nothing measurable over the Note in terms of real world performance. Once the Note update comes along and all the wrinkles in ICS get ironed out you will be wishing you had not wasted all that extra cash. To say that that the current ICS for the Note and even the Nexus is full of issues would be an understatement. It's just like when everyone was telling people they should buy Intel Quad over the Duo for all those worthless extra cores. Meanwhile there has yet to be a single app released for the average Joe that actually makes it worth having more then two cores. The same applies to Apps there is nothing (feel free to prove me wrong) that provides enough justification to drop extra cash for a Quad core mobile device.

I don't know where the OP lives for sure, but since they have the LTE version of the Note, and have contacted their buddy at Best Buy and ATT, then I would assume that the OP is in North America (OP also mentions the 2GB of ram).

All this leads me to believe that the OP has purchased the dual core version of the S3, not the quad so I am unsure what your post about the extra cores has to do with this thread and the OPs purchase. In fact, the S3 has an upgraded dual-core and upgraded gpu as well.

Besides the fact that the S3 will have a much better camera for low-light situations, I would say that the S3 is a worthy upgrade if the camera and dual-core performance is important.

He will miss out on the larger screen and handy stylus, and I have not experienced any performance issues with my Note and I am very happy with it. But I don't doubt that the S3 will perform better, and have a much more capable camera.

No matter what phone you get, something "better" will always come out. :hmmmm:

I guess I look at it as no one but you can decide if it's worth it or not for you to swap out. But at the same time, you can't really speak for what everyone else will consider is the better one because everyone looks for something right for them. Enjoy your SGS 3!

Am I the only one that will own both? My Galaxy Note is my second phone right now and the S3 will replace my HTC Vivid so I'll be rocking two Samsung Galaxy phones at the same time for the first time ever for me. LOL

I was thinking S3 US version was getting quad but either way slightly more power wont make a huge difference either way. Sure it might scroll faster and certain tasks will feel faster like with the S2 because the screen is smaller which packs more pixels and requires less power. I just think many people put the Note down simply because it's not a snappy one trick pony like the iPhone even though it can do so much more.

The Note issues really seem to be with Android and driver implementation not the hardware within device itself. I believed this to be the case long ago and posted about it in another thread which the article i posted has since has reaffirmed my belief. The S2 still has issues to this day and there to date there has never been a perfect phone for everyone. And for anyone to say Samsung gave up on the Note simply due to the lack of ICS is a load of nonsense. To me it sounds like some Note owners were only happy with the device when it was new and never actually wanted it for what it actually is or will become in the future.

If and when it gets Photoshop Touch support that would make me the most happy Note user on planet earth. :)

I have to agree that the Note is not eveyone's cup of tea. If the OP wants the S3, that's perfectly fine. There is nothing wrong with that. Each phone will have its quirks and imperfections. It's like us finicky humans. We're not perfect. It's just how much tolerance we have towards the device and whether or not we can live with them.

Well, I hope OP will have great enjoyment with the S3 and that it will be better suited to OP's needs. That's the most imporant aspect for any device after all... :)

Agreed. I don't believe that Samsung gave up on this device either...as far as I can tell, its the carriers that are dragging their feet in getting updates out there...perhaps all were surprised at the success of the Note, but I don't see abandonment at all.

TBH most people who see my phone and were going to get an S3 go out and get the Note because once they hold it and put it in their pockets, it is not as bulky as they thought.

Either way, Note, S3, iPhone etc. so many good choices nowadays!

If I was also rich I'd do this. It'd be fun to send stuff between the two with NFC and wifi direct etc.

The elephant in the room is for 80% of America, Verizon's 4G LTE blows away ATT or the other carriers. I've been dying for the Note since I first heard about it in Sept '11 but who knows if VZW will ever get it and waiting means giving up Unlimited Data. I'm still not sure if I'll ever need more than 10GB on a family plan but perhaps with traveling and tethering and Netflix and who knows what else, I could.

What is this buy back plan? I never heard of it. An S3 for $230, isn't so bad but after paying for the Note it's really $530.

I have a few days left to decide. This is an LTE group and probably for a year ATT will not provide LTE where I'll be and VZW says nothing about a Note 2, If I new VZW would have one in November, I'd wait.

Are people really waiting on carriers to update to ICS.. I don't wait on carriers I am the support for my own phone..

Given that I have little to no programming skills, and cannot tell if any malicious code is in a "community developed ROM", I'll hold out for an official release. That and the lackluster changes seen on my Sensation, which was recently updated to ICS, I'm in no hurry for the Here's upgrade...unless it is promising better screen calibration and longer battery life.

In most cases that's exactly what a "community developed" rom offers... better battery life, better performance, more features, less bloatware, etc...

With the scrutiny these roms get from fellow developers, I would imagine that using a very popular rom is a safe bet as if they were malware-infested it would get outed in a hurry.

I have avoided (in my short time) jumping on an unproven rom simply for stability-sake. This might be a good tactic to avid any malicious code as well.

But nothing is guaranteed for sure...just unlikely.

The Note is only 7% longer than the S3 but 17% wider & 25% more screen area. To me that's significant. It's better for reading, editing, looking or using at excel spreadsheets (extra columns), better for looking at pictures & videos, better for drawing and sending a picture (other day I had to send my sister a picture of kitchen chairs because she forgot what they looked like) so I could have sketched it on the Note. I wasn't in front of them to take a picture.

So, all these benefits are incredible as long as the extra size isn't a problem. For me it's not. I would never consider downloading ebooks to read on the S3 but certainly on the Note. Perhaps if I were 20 I'd feel differently but I'm not.

As far as the VZW CEO not caring, that's probably true & that's why there is no VZW Note. Imagine with all the 4G LTE sites that VZW has, how great the Note would be for those who have no desire whatsoever to carry around and pay for a tablet. We had a RE broker here the other day. She wanted to show us comparative pictures of houses like ours. She has an IPAD but I guess she doesn't like schlepping it everywhere. The Note with 25% more screen area than the S3 might be nice for her. There are many applications that fit better for the Note.

However, there are so many damn phones whose difference are so negligible, but each has it's own market. Yet a phone like the Note that has 4G LTE stands alone at ATT (whose LTE network is dreadful) and Verizon is ignoring it. Not smart.

I won't get rid of the Note but may add an S3 or HTC to my lineup...maybe both. Decisions decisions
