Root Just to be clear - HTC Sync after root

Reddawg

Newbie
Rooted my Evo this morning using Unrevoked3. I'm still using the stock ROM. Haven't delved into that yet.

1.) At this point it is best to uncheck Menu>Settings>System Updates>HTC Software Updates>Schedule Check, correct?

2.) Also, I shouldn't manually update it either, correct? (Check now button at the bottom)

I kind of wanted to get the HTC Sync back that did Music, media and everything - not just the earlier one that did contacts and calendar from Outlook (which I downloaded from the HTC site). But, to update it to the newer version I believe you have to use this update. Is that correct? And can I update it without messing up the root? Thanks

Congrats on rooting your Evo :).

1) Yes, you are correct on both counts. Turn off the scheduled check, and never update that way. See the rooting for dummies guide, section 6 under after rooting for how to update. If you're up to date now, you won't have to worry about it until there is a new OTA. Nobody knows when that will be.

2) What exactly do you mean by HTC sync? HTC sync is just an application that you download from the HTC site and install on your computer. Is that what you want? I assume you uninstalled it as a part of unrevoked. The purpose of that is to make sure it doesn't interfere with the process. You can reinstall it if you need. It has nothing to do with the HTC software update on the phone.

Thanks for the answer to #1. As for Question #2, please correct me if I'm wrong [and I've been wrong half a dozen times today already ] yes, what I'm talking about is there HTC Sync application. However, you now can only get the updated version on the phone going to System Updates>HTC software updates and clicking on the 'Check Now' at the bottom- I believe.

I'm just looking for the Music sync and Document sync capability again. Sorry if I'm too much a noob on this one....

Thanks. That's what I was looking for. It doesn't take you to the latest version through the Evo support site, and the one I found was obviously not for the Evo.
