Root Just wanted CyanogenMod 7.2, now I'm practically stock

I got my Evo Feb of last year. I rooted it immediately. Lately I have been very tired of my current set up so I did some reading and decided I wanted CyanogenMod 7.2. According to whatever original walk-through I read, I learned that I did not have the correct versions of much of anything to be able to run CyanogenMod. I decided I would just update. I found and downloaded what I thought I needed.

I started messing around with my Evo at about 12 hours ago. I've spent hours downloading this, that and the other. Now my phone LOOKS stock (ugh barf), I cannot access recovery, and I don't have any awesome features I had before to speak of. I'm so tired of messing with this. I hate stock so much. :(

This is what I am shown...

Help... ANYONE! <3

OK, I've moved the thread to the Evo 4G All Thing Root forum, where you'll get the most experienced root users involved. ;)

You're still S-off and hboot 2.10, awesome sauce!! You can relax, we'll get you fixed up! :)

You probably have the stock recovery, thats why you're having difficulties. Good thing is you're still rooted, so all we need to do is get you a custom recovery loaded. Go here to get Amon-RA recovery:
PC36IMG_RA_2.3.zip

Place the file on the root of your SD card and rename the file to exactly: PC36IMG if using windows with extensions hidden. Boot your phone to hboot and it will scan for the file, select yes to update, let it do it's thang. Select no to reboot, then select recovery, you should have amon-ra 2.3. By far the best recovery out there. ;)

Once you have that recovery, you can flash like normal. :D

If you have any questions or get stuck, just post back, we'll get you fixed up. :)

Could you possibly re-locate the walkthrough you followed to get you to the point you are now? It'd be fairly easy to tell where you went wrong if you could post that up.

Whoops lol Sorry.

Thanks!! I'll do this as soon as I get home and let you know how it turns out. Think I can load CyanogenMod after this without any problems? *sigh* At this point I don't even really care if I use CyanogenMod as long as the ROM is badass in general. lol I was using Koni previously... the only one I could find at the time in which all of the helpful GPS / teathering apps actually worked.

I pretty much went from one to another to another to another to another. :/ I became pretty overwhelmed so I was on an IRC support chat for a while. Of course I ended up with more links from there. One of the guys in the chat told me to just go down the list and redo everything in the order of - Froyo > Unrevoked > Revolutionary > Cyanogen.

I would go with the file Granite linked to. That will give you a custom Recovery.

The Rooting guide here is very easy to follow and was helpful when I rooted last summer.

You can just go down to the Recovery section and then from that move on to the Flashing of Roms part.

For a good Rom with everything working you could flash MikG 3.1. It will blow your mind after being on Koni for so long.

I know you mentioned CM 7.2 but you may have some issues getting the GPS to lock so you'll need to flash some drivers for it. (I'm sure one of the resident AOSP experts will post them up if you need them.)

Just follow the Guide that was linked and you should be fine. If you do have other questions everyone here is really helpful.

Here are some Download links:
