Help Keep wifi on? Remove system apps?

Hey,
I just got the phone, read over the whole FAQ and had some questions.
1. Is there a way to keep wifi on as the phone seems to turn it off, or does it really kill the battery?

2. Is there any application that is capable of removing the system apps. I didn't understand what they meant when that was asked in the faq.

Wifi generally drains battery life since it's constantly looking for a network to connect. So shut it down if you don't need it.

What system apps are you talking about? And why would they need to be removed?

You know, the apps that come with the phone like NFL or what not.

need to root the ol phone to do that...and from my understanding, if you have the new software "cupcake.cl14" one cant root....yet but dont quote me...

if you go under wifi settings -> menu -> advanced you can change the sleep pattern

when im at home wifi is on all the time i dont mind using the wifi onoff widgit as i leave the house to save battery life. the way i c it if im at home i can keep it plugged in all the time

To remove apps you need to be rooted. There are several threads showing you how do it. Its easy. Then you need to adb and remove them through adb.
