Root Keeping Calendar in sync

Rooted X, so reliable and perfect that I've forgotten how to troubleshoot!

Calendar is no longer syncing unless I do it manually.

???

you said you are rooted, what rom are you running? or are you running one? and are you on .605 or the dreaded .621?

Oh boy! It was more than a year ago, and a LOT has happened.

Rooted via "Pete's" simple root procedure (must be simple for me to do it). Solid as a rock. ROM is the original. .605 rings a bell.

Settings > Accounts > myemailaddress and Sync Calendar (or email, Contacts, etc.) and it's good. But it no longer syncs automatically. It did, now it won't. I obviously changed something - inadvertently.

That's the problem with stable, functional, error-free, technology. We forgot how we got to that level - the tweakskills fade, not that I ever had much of that.

have you tried wiping the data and cache from your calendar in the applications menu in settings?

No - what is that? I looked at Settings>Applications and didn't see an opportunity to wipe anything... When I select Manage Applications, "Calendar" is not listed.

Interestingly, Calendar (the app) does not appear in the App Drawer.

There's a problem that goes beyond sync. My X has not been rebooted for 6-8 months... it's time.

i wonder if its another issue with gb, you could try installing a rom, that has blur features if thats what you like, but the calendar is a google thing so it should sync, have you tried going to your accounts, and hitting sync on the calendar?

I am in my70s -- old dog, new tricks. I really don't want to make major changes and hope this can be fixed by flipping one switch or another in the system.

sorry, i got busy at work yesterday after my last message, rooting and installing a rom is easy, it takes a while for all of your apps to resync, but it is so pain free that its amazing :)

basically you would need one of the 2 init roms, which some will recommend cm7 and others miui, they are all fully functional and work perfectly with minor bugs here and there.

that may be something you would want to check out

A few years ago with the Eris and then the Incredible it was ROM-of-the-day. A lot of fun, almost a hobby. But now I just want stability and functionality.

To me, it would be a PITA to start from scratch -- re-root, new ROM, then re-install everything. I might just install a ROM and see what happens.

By the way, I'm using LauncherPro+

Thanks

launcherpro wouldnt cause sync issues with the calendar, its your account with google, or the stock rom in general, i have heard of calendar issues with stock gb for the dx, but i cant remember where, you can install any rom you wish there would be no need to reroot once you do it, i would personally suggest the 2init roms, or liberty, because they are the most stable i have seen, as well as apex

Where's a source for the latest CM7?

My failing memory suggests that it's:

Save everything
Put the compressed ROM on the SD card
Boot into Recovery
Wipe cache & Dalvik
Select ROM
Select Gapps
Reboot
Reinstall

download rom
put rom on the root of your sd card
wipe data
wipe cache partition
install rom
install gapps
reboot
finished.

Every time I've had serious sync issues with my Calendar I was able to fix them by going into Manage Applications and clicking "Clear Data" under Calendar Storage. The downside of this is that anything that's on your phone and hasn't sync'ed elsewhere will be lost. If you want to try avoiding this, there's an app called Calendar Repair that you could use to backup and then restore your phone's calendar items, but in my case this led to a number of duplicated items (because it won't overwrite during a restore operation) that I then had to nuke...I think there are still a few floating around my calendar.

With the exception of this recent calendar problem, this phone has been rock solid. I'll try the Clear Data stunt with the Calendar before installing a new ROM, which is a slippery slope. With the HTC Incredible, ROM-switching became almost a sickness...

i suggested that yesterday lol

Sure - but I was worried about losing about 200 entries, and didn't feel like writing them all out.

Well, I just did it! It appears that nothing is lost from either end of the Calendar, but LauncherPro's home screen is now confused.

...working on it. New ROM is looking better and better.
