When I've used Android briefly in the past, I've had a lot of trouble with contacts. I've got about 800 work contacts on Exchange and maybe about 75 personal contacts on my old phone. I also have contacts with just an email address in gmail, and these I don't want included in my phone contact list at all (but do want them available for things like autofill when I'm sending a mail from gmail on my phone)
The last two times I tried Android I had the following problems with my contacts:
1) Contacts from my old phone when they got put on my new phone they had combined in funny ways (for instance, James and Jim became one contact)
2) Many contacts ended up duplicated
3) Anytime someone mailed me at my gmail account, they would get added as an Exchange contact
So how do I avoid that happening this time? So far the only contacts I have are from Exchange, I haven't tried using Backup Assistant yet, and I haven't connected my gmail account to the phone.
