Help Keeping screen active?

Is there a setting that will keep the screen active (lit) during a phone call? It's fine for it to go dark on voice calls but it's a PITA when I'm in a phone tree and having to enter numerals constantly. I have to light up the screen (using the End key), enter numbers until it goes dark, and then go through the whole process all over again.

I found a setting to keep the screen lit at all other times but I can't find anything to work during a call. I assume the going dark has something to do with the proximity sensor but I want to override that.

Sprint Hero 2.1, rooted but with stock ROM, all updates

No not on the stock rooted Rom, but there are Roms out there that do

Look for Call Light in the market. I've used it since I got the phone, works great.

Also may want try "Screen On" You can set it to cause the screen to stay on during the use of any app. I use it for internet, and gallery, to name just two.
