Root Kernal for battery life

Someone please explain this in regular words...........To use clockwork, you can reboot recovery and Rom Manager, or cold boot into recovery (power off phone, power back on while holding both volume keys). If you cold boot into recovery you need to select apply update.zip and it will launch ClockworkMod.

just go into ROM manager and click where it says "reboot in recovery". That is how you reboot in recovery. This will bring you to the screen that will allow you to add the file that you want to add. Just find the file that you moved to your SD card and click on it..just remember to click backup and clear cache.

Look regular to me :D
Have you installed ClockWorkmod and ROM manager yet? If so boot to recovery like it says above. Once there select install zip from sd card,at the next screen select "select zip from sd"...you will be presented with a directory list, find your file and say "yes" you are sure (even if your not) it will unzip and install the files then reboot. Some reboots can take along time so make sure to give it time.

OK guys I I put odin on put in clockwork and hit start. Odin said it was sussessful and passed. This turned my phone off. Do I turn it back on or will the program do that?

Come on guys really freaking out here after I successfully done the odin thing the phone is not coming back on PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!

what do you mean you successfully done the odin thing you need to be more specific about what you did

y Im asking is yo u have me really confused earlier you were asking about reboot in recovery in the ROM Manager, now you are talking about Odin and that should have been done before rebooting in recovery. Because you have to have Odin downloaded to properly install clockwork. And you have to have clockwork installed to reboot in recovery. So if you could list step by step what you have done. That way myself or someone maybe smarter ;) can help you out.

I got everything completed. I flashed the stuidfast kernal for battery life mainly. A couple things I am noticing is when phone is turned on there is no little blue symbol or verizon symbol anymore. Also if I go into my app and go into my files app it makes the screen go black and I have to reboot phone. If this normal?

wipe data and cache in clockwork and let us know if that helps

How do I do that?

Does phone still need to be in download mode and hooked to computer?

go into rom manager...click reboot recovery....once the green screen is up navigate to wipe data then cache....make sure you backup first under backupandrestore as you will loose your setup.

or try just wiping cache and then loading one of jts non undervolt non voodoo kernels in rom manager...that alone may help.

I did not back up and lost my set up. :( I was able to get back to my original state when I got the phone. Will my root still be there. How about my kernal? Is there anything I need to do now?

root should still be there, theres no reason not :)

just a rule of thumb with flashing...backup before flashing any system changes: themes/roms/kernels/mods

really i wipe data all the time and can get my system back the way it was quickly...but thats not for everyone

So I have no choice but to manually get back to how I had it then? Since the root is there how about the kernal?

sorry im following a bunch of threads...did you odin a new kernel ?

if not and didnt restore a backup, then whatever your most recent kernel was should be there.

its not too much trouble to flash a new one if your not sure though

Yes I put the stupdfast kernal on it and I did back it up. Is there a easy way to get all my apps back?

if you didnt back them up......then no

for future use...titanium backup ($6) is the way to go...you can make backups of your apps and app data and then restore after wiping.

a full backup in cwr is like an iso image of your phone at the time of backup as well (but 400mb on your sdcard)

any apps you bought are your downloads in market

any 3rd party apps (nonmarket) you ll have to reinstall with astro.
