Root [KERNEL] Franco Kernel Discussion (r68)

In the newest version of the app (may still be in beta) there's a check box next to all of the options.

Checking it will set on boot

The latest release of franco kernel for CM builds breaks the new battery indicators, the expandable volume panel, and volume key cursor control.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

Couple things to troubleshoot:

What build of cm are you on? When was the last one you tried that worked? Do those things work with stock cm kernel? Chances are, its something cm changed that broke it, and Franco just needs to resync a repo.

It's definitely a great kernel for our device. I wish I knew more about kernels, so I could build my own.

I've been building his but running into problems. Somehow even if I make no changes from his source my compiled kernel is much bigger than his, and won't boot

Little by little I'm getting closer though lol.

Not an update to the kernel itself, but the newest beta of the Franco kernel updater app has on the fly color profiles!

(You'll need to join his beta program on Google + in order for it to update via play)

R34 is out! :D

Pushed r34:

* No more display flickering after applying a color profile, but now you have to screen off/on to apply the new colors
* New feature that improves Auto-Brightness experience (active by default)
* Merged a feature from upstream Linux to make the system use power efficient workqueues for several systems which will save some battery in the long run
* Other misc patches, improvements, fixes and merges - check my github

Have fun and obviously send feedback!

That new auto-brightness feature rocks! I've never left any of my devices on auto-brightness before, but this really works. In fact, when I downloaded it and installed I was sitting in bed in the mostly dark and when the phone rebooted and came back up I thought for a minute something was wrong with my backlight. Then I realized, no, it was perfect-- very dim, but completely readable because I was sitting in the dark. *This* is what auto-brightness should be doing! :)

Loving Franco and DU!

Today I woke up and got ready for work (7:30am) when I got in I turned my WiFi and Bluetooth off (did a tiny bit of Bluetooth music streaming during the day but turned it off as soon as I didn't need it anymore) did a bit of web stuff, Facebook, emails, Instagram etc. Left work at 5:30 still had 47% battery. 53% for 10 hours is pretty damn good in my books :)

What colour profile(s) are people digging? I've tried a couple but there are sooooo many I don't want to sit there and go through all of them (although I probably eventually will) so I figured I'd check in here to see what you bros are vibing on?

I've got a custom one I'm using that's just a slightly tweaked existing profile (can't remember the name right this moment :o).

What youre going to want to do is download an app called display tester. Its got all kinds of display tests in there, but gamma tests are going to be what you primarily use. You want to find the profile that gets you as close to gamma 2.2 on all colors.

There isn't a preferred color profile because some nexus 5 have been randomly calibrated at the manufacture and came out with a stronger color tint. So one color profile might look fine on my phone but on yours maybe not so great. Look up rxpert's suggestion and see if your gamma values are around 2.1 ( hit or miss as long as its close enough and your photos don't look like they've been watered down).

Edit: here's the link where I got mine http://d-h.st/users/vomer?fld_id=31462

I picked Piereligio_TrueRGB_v4.1

I thought I started with son of Sammy 2 and adjusted the values from there, but when I go back and load son of sammy now everything way off

With the profile I have now, I'm in the 2.2-2.3 range for everything. Thats much better than the 1.8 my screen started at.

Getting 2.6 and 2.4. I think my phone had the yellow tint problem.

I'm sticking with the Piereligio profiles

Many thanks Hook :):)

Am running r35 with the stock rom. Paid for the FK Updater and have all the options available to me. Can't wait to try them out.

I was on the latest version of DU but went back to stock. Just could not get the stats to look correctly in the notification bar. See pick. Sounds like a small thing but was a deal breaker for me anyway. That and the screenshot feature............it loaded the toggle into the reboot menu ?? Have no idea why.

Am able to undervolt -75 universally instead of -50 like it was on previous releases.

I'd get an instant reboot previously.

Will try and run -75 global. Also Franco just updated his app and added an import option of all the color profiles for the nexus 5.
