Root Kernel Source Released

Yeah that's for the Evo 3D on Sprint.
I just checked on HTC Dev and looked our device up to find that it hasn't been released.

Isn't the kernel the same between the two devices? Don't we use kernels built for the 3d without any issues?

We are talking about the software, not the network.
And yes, downgrading your hboot kind of deals with it.

Yes but we are using the same phone on the same network. It's the same hardware. We use evo 3d kernels just fine so I'm pretty sure the source code for our kernel and theirs is VERY similar if not the exact same.

Sense 3.6 Roms and their Kernels have been compatible with our Evo V since day one we've only had problems with ASOP based Roms (until the 1.04 hboot)

I thought with this release of the ICS kernel, it finally lets use use ASOP / CM9 etc without using a hacked kernel (i.e. anthrax, mac, etc)? And finally we'll have access to ALL features - instead of issues with devil's toast, jmz's CM9, etc?

Am I wrong in this assumptions?

I hope devs get a chance to pick up this new kernel and help us finally get to a good CM9 (hopefully 10) experience

The deal with 3.0 kernels is that you can use them between aosp and sense. The question really is, would it be worth my time to do a kernel for this phone. Meaning would people go back to regular bootloader vice the 1.04? You would still be able to boot EVO 3d roms as long as you flashed my kernel after flashing the Rom.

Of course this is in theory as I am assuming it will only work on newer hboot

I'm actually very interested to see if the a lot of the functionality of the 3d can be used with this sorta information being released.

Does anyone know why Devil's toast was scrapped by cyanogenmod? Was it because of the source for parts such as 3d screen and camera not being released?

Kernel source has nothing to do with 3d cam. That's all libs, bins, and framework.

Didn't know it was scrapped. Just thought that nobody had submitted it yet

Probably not

Out of curiosity, what would be the main thing holding back 3D? If the needed code is in the framework, then can't that just be duplicated using jdgui? Is there an incompatibility with the libs and bins you mentioned before? Like I said, just wondering.

3D cam doesn't concern me add much as 3D display itself, such as for videos and games.

Its more that jdgui is ok but far from perfect. But honestly I haven't looked into it that much. It's really the last thing on my list

So if I can do a kernel that's universal. Ie, works on aosp and sense would it be used enough? I don't like doing work then hardly anybody use it. And like I said before even if you updated hboot as long as you flash my kernel you can flash any EVO 3d Rom. I have already tested it

Well hell yes. I would think that would be very useful. My vote is yes, but then I know nothing about the work that's needed to make a kernel.

Oh I know about jdgui and I understand where you're coming from. Your response to the original question was in regards to cm9, and now that you've moved on to cm10 I hope that things progress enough that 3d will eventually come back into your radar. Thanks for your work.

I heard it around XDA a lot, but I never could get confirmation from anywhere. Cyanogenmod's fourms for it also mentioned it as well. Also thanks for the clarification with the kernel.

I'm sure your Kernel would help those who don't want to get S OFF (unless that's needed) and downgrade their HBOOT.

I need one or two users to get on IRC freenode #evo-v for a test or 2. you need to be s-off with juopunutbear hboot. 1.40 HBOOT need not apply.....

so it seems tests are going well. doesn't boot cm9 but that will get figured out. Adding features and will prolly release late tomorrow sometime. I really want to check stability over the weekend
