Root Kernel trouble

Crooke356

Newbie
I'm running Cyanogen 7.0.0. With the stock kernel I could run any governor that was offered and a Max cpu speed of 1.075 with no problems (1.113 froze my Dinc). I just flashed the tiamat inc kernel and it now freezes when I change the governor to performance or the newly offered smartass at any cpu speed. Is this an equipment, kernel, setting or user issue? Is it something I can remedy? I would love to be able to run at the 1.267ghz level, just to know I can. Although I wouldn't keep it that high, just want it! Any tips or suggestions would be great!

Being only 3 months old in the "root community" I'm not at all knowledgeable in this stuff. Before I do anything, i research first. But again, being new to this, I don't understand all the termanalogy, therefore, don't fully understand what I'm doing. I basically look to see what's compatible with what and follow instructions to the T. So, with that being said, with the tiamat kernel I'm able to run with any governor (excluding smartass and performance) at 1.19ghz. I'm hoping that if I can switch to one the "forbidden" governors, I might be able to push my cpu speed up. Maybe even to the coveted 1.267ghz. Thats where you experts come into play. Help, please. Not just with this particular issue, but maybe with my ignorance.

Did you wipe the cache/dalvik cache before flashing?
If you did it's possible the kernel just doesn't like your phone. Try flashing it again if you want.

If you read the forum over at XDA, a lot of folks are experiencing issues with Tiamat 4.0 (now 4.01). What version are you running? I don't have any issues whatsoever with incredikernel (you can over/under clock and use smartass as well). That said, I am going to try Tiamat SBC soon. Maybe one or two more builds....

Incredikerenl is what I was using before I flashed tiamat. It didn't offer smartass or speed as high...... I used a different app to change speeds and governers. It allowed me to go to smartass but not to increase my speed.

Incredikernel has had smartass in it for a long time -- many builds... It will let you set a min/max under/overclock as well as undervolt if you want to try the undervolt zip. The settings are under "cyanogenmod settings", "performance", "cpu". The set cpu on boot flag should be set if you are using something other than default...

I have read that others are not able to overclock as high with Incredikernel. It might be the undervolt values are too low at that speed. You can always bump them up a little if you have root explorer and see if that helps.

That said, why do you want to overclock so high? I have my phone set at 883 max and I notice very little difference than stock 998. Games still play the same and apps seem to refresh just as well.

To be honest, to see if I could. And see if there was a noticeable difference from stock. Although, with the feedback I'm getting, there doesn't seem to be any increased performance with higher cpu speeds. You more experienced users seem to be going for battery life vs speed.

maybe thats a sign
