Keyboard changed in Gingerbread?

Did the keyboard change in gingerbread? I seem to remember having the smiley face key on the froyo version.

The smiley face can be found by hitting the last button on the left. What ever you call that square key.

Never mind. It depends on the messaging application you use. It shows in the Handcent version, but not in the stock version.
