Keyboard "Continuous touch" issue.

Hey all, I'm running into an issue that I can't seem to find much info on. I have been using the stock Samsung kyboard with the "continuous input" option enabled. It worked great for the first few days and then it just quit working on me. I opened up the Input settings and went to the Samsung keyboard settings. It showed that continuous input was selected. I went to cycle the settings off and then back on, but once I turned it off the selection grayed out and will not let me turn it back on.

I guess it won't kill me to just use Swype, but I had gotten used to the Samsung keyboard and was curious if anybody had ran into this issue.

Thanks.

At first I didn't know what you were talking about. On the Note II in the Samsung keyboard settings continuous input is called Swiftkey Flow. Have you tried just restarting your phone?

Interesting, I haven't come across the term Swiftkey Flow yet. Oddly when I went to go look for it, I noticed that it gave me the option to turn "continuous input" back on, however it still doesn't seem to be working quite right. Unless of course I'm an idiot and I have no idea what I'm talking about. Which wouldn't be the first time :D

This is what I see in my settings menu.

It seems that the Sprint & AT&T versions use different terminology.

Rtlsnksteve, what Portrait keyboard type are you using? Is it still qwerty?

Yup, still using qwerty. It's interesting that each of these carriers felt the need to switch things up with the software.

Yes it is. It's not like international versions where they may want to tailor to different languages/customs. They're just adding increased work & money for no perceivable reason.

Anyway, back to your issue.

Did you restart your phone like ScandaLeX recommended? Did it help?

Yup I've restarted it a few times, with no change. I think at this point I'll do a factory reset after a backup and see what happens. If that doesn't fix it, I guess I'll learn to live with swype.

Ok. You could also try pulling the battery & restarting that way.

Let us know how it works out for ya.

Have you installed any apps that use accessibility settings? I installed NoLED and when I turned on the part that monitors other apps, this stopped the 'continuous input' function from working. It became greyed-out in the settings.

Go into Accessibility and have a look in the Services section. If anything's turned on try turning it off and seeing whether this makes continuous input work again (I didn't have to uninstall NoLED, just turn off its accessibility service).

Tried that a few times to no avail. Coming from 5 years with iPhone it sure is nice to be able to do this again.

WE HAVE A WINNER!!!

It looks like it was the app Light Flow was causing the issue. I admit I have no idea how the two are connected, but as soon as I disable it in Accessibility menu the keyboard returned to regular function.

Thanks for your help!

That dog gone Light Flow seems to always cause some sort of issue. So glad your functioning properly again!!!

Im not willing to give up light flow for the continuous touch.

Honestly I haven't even really figured out how light flow works yet. I'll have to take a closer look at it tonight and see what all it does. It was just one of the 20 apps I downloaded on the first day of having the phone. So if you have any tips to make it awesome...I might be convinced to drop continuous touch :)

Awesome that you found the problem! It seems like it's common on Samsung devices. Check out this - Forum | SAMSUNG Developers

Wow, that's a good read. I was experiencing all of those issue with light flow enabled. It's interesting to see that all of the developers seem to be at a loss as well. I'll be keeping an eye on it to see if it gets resolved. While android might be a bit more tempramental than iOS, its nice to see that problems that exist are much more transparent.

This is the first time Ive used it, but I am partially color blind (red/green blue/purple) so with light flow I can set my texts to green, emails to blue, and have colors that are far enough apart I can actually tell them apart. My previous phone was one of those amber/orange/green LEDs and thats the same color in my eyes with that LED.

I just messed with the settings until I got it working good. Thats really all I can recommend.

My continuous input is greyed out!! :( how come?

Added with Edit:
oh wow turning off lightflow made it green again... this is crazy...

lightflow is on crack... first is causes talkback when its turned off then it stops continuous input...

but its so nice to have different colour LED lights for different things...

so divided! lol

Apparently the light flow app developers are working on getting a fix for a future update. Until then that app, however neat it is, stays turned off.

Then they've been working on it for years cause all I remember about it is it's always caused issues no matter what phone it's used on.

My continuous input just stopped working. The Samsung keyboard options generally don't seem to be working--I have auto capitalization and auto punctuation turned on, but those options aren't working either. i have restarted, reset the keyboard settings, nothing. i do not have LightFlow nor are any services under Accessibility turned on. Help!

EDIT: The problem seems to be with the Dolphin browser. The keyboard works fine everywhere else ... so I have had to switch back to Chrome. So that's annoying. If anyone knows how to fix this in Dolphin I'd be grateful... I universals and reinstalled the app but that didn't fix it.

Hi all,
I was having "Swipe" issues too. As I followed this thread I got into my "Samsung Keyboard Settings" on my Galaxy S6. When I scrolled to the bottom of the page I found a "Reset settings"option. When I taped on it I had the option to "Reset keyboard settings" and "Clear personalized data". By taping the first one I was able to get the
"Continuous touch" to light up again and my swipe started working properly again.

Art, Thanks for that. My Samsung keyboard lost it's swipe ability over the weekend. Google brought me to you and you solved my problem. Thanks!
