Keyboard Hype?

So, I just received my d3 and I must say I'm not THAT impressed by all the keyboard hype thats been going around as "the best keyboard ever" ..The keys aren't raised at all and the space bar is extremely hard to hit..other than that I'm not saying its bad but I must say it doesn't live up to all the hype I have been hearing..anyone agree?

Maybe after typing on a D1 for long my standards have been lowered, but I think its great. I have 0 issues typing texts, and I think it is a HUGE improvement over the other.

Perfect tho? Best ever? I don't know of any phone / keyboard that is perfect or the best. Each has their strengths and weaknesses. The keyboard is definitely no a weakness on this phone by any stretch of the imagination.

I've had half a dozen keyboard phones ranging all the way back to the original Sidekick/Hiptop on TMo. This is by far the best I've used. No, the entire key is not raise in the sense like a desktop keyboard, but there is a raised "nipple" on every key that makes hitting the keys very easy. I don't have any qualms with the spacebar on the physical keyboard. Want to talk about mishitting the spacebar? I can't stand the stock virtual keyboards on android because of just that. I almost always end up hitting the period instead. I replace the stock keyboard with Smart Keyboard Pro with the Galaxy skin and that solves that problem, though.

Very user friendly keyboard. Having said that, it's user friendly for some users, not all. I think that's impossible: to create a keyboard (or anything else for that matter) which will seem perfect for every single person. ;)

I think the keyboard is a little over-hyped, too. My last phone was an LG Ally. I liked the keyboard on that better. But EVERYTHING else is better about the Droid 3, so I am happy I upgraded.

There's a little bit of an adjustment w/ the keyboard. I was used to my enV Touch's keyboard for 2 years and now have to relearn a new keyboard, but I've picked it up pretty quickly. I tend to mix texting types w/ Swype, keyboard, and the occasional voice dictation.

The only thing I liked about the Ally's keyboard was the fact that were angled slightly to the left/right depending on which half of the keyboard they were on.

Other than that, the D3 keyboard is far superior.

imo its keyboard is money. 5 rows. I got relatively large hands and can type easy. personally i think its more that i hate touch screen keyboards.

for this matter...its a shame worms battle islands does not use the keyboard as an alternative to control.

anyway. i had droid x2 first. the day after i placed the order the droid 3 came out. so i got x2, returned it for d3 that day.

i had d3 july10th...lmao. 99% of reason was keyboard.

coming from a D1 I never used the physical keyboard, Now I have the D3 and I use the physical keyboard more then the virtual keyboard, especially since it has a dedicated numbers row...great for passwords and such...

Not sure if anyone else had this phone, but in my opinion the best keyboard I've ever used was on my Moto Q9m. I think that will reign supreme. Anyway, the eys are definitely raised so I'm not sure what you're talking about. I would say this beats anything currently available

Like anything new you learn it, get used to it and get good at it. I was happy with the keyboard on the LG ENV 3 and on the Droid 1. Then I went without a physical keyboard with the DroidX and Samsung Charge. Coming to the Droid3 I definitely missed the physical keyboard and I love it. Maybe not blow your mind away awesome but the 5th row numbers is spetacular IMO. Some say the 5th row is too hard to strike. I have big hands/fingers and have no problem. Very happy with the Droid 3 as this phone I will stick with for some time now!!

Has anyone been able to do "blind typing" w/ this keyboard yet? What I mean is that you can type by looking at the screen instead of the kb. I was never able to fully succeed doing that w/ my previous phone and I probably won't be able to w/ this one either. With a real full-size keyboard (that's w/ my computer), I can do blind typing just fine.

I never look at the keyboard unless I'm doing alt-keys. <3 homekey indicators. I have had half a dozen keyboard phones and chat pads on my 360 and PS3, though, so I'm used to typing with my thumbs like that.

Nice, I wish I could learn to do that but I make too many errors. : \
