Help Keyboard keeps crashing with continuous input switched on

I was using my Note 10.1 with the default Samsung keyboard for several days, maybe a week, all was fine. Then I switched on continuous input - really useful and speeds up typing but, with it turned on, every now and then, the keyboard just stops responding.

Like if I'm replying to an email, where the keyboard is, it will disappear, or rather, I'll be left with a grey box. It happened in email the first time and I couldn't get the keyboard to work any where. I was then told that email had stopped responding but, the next time this happened, I was using Chrome, trying to send a message on Gumtree. So obviously a problem with the keyboard rather than email/chrome.

When I turn continuous input off, I don't have this issue. Have turned the Note 10.1 off and back on again :s. Works fine on my Note 2 so really weird.
