Help Keyboard keeps freezing

Hello, I've been having a problem with the touch-input keyboard on my Evo. Sometimes when I'm typing, the keyboard refuses to let me type or edit anything. I can move the cursor around the screen, but that's about it. If I click the 'back' button at the bottom of my phone, it will bring me back to the conversation that I was trying to send a text in, but it will bring me back to the very first text that I ever sent that person. If I scroll all the way back down to the input area, I can type normally and the problem goes away. It's just very frustrating to have to scroll through hundreds of texts just to be able to send another one (I thought that having too many texts in the conversation was slowing down things, so I limited each conversation to a maximum of 300 texts).

Has anyone every experienced this problem, or know of a solution? Thank you for reading!

Edit: If it makes any difference, my phone is not rooted.

Some keyboards have this issue, and backing out to a draft screen, then reentering does generally cure it. Have you tried to install a different keyboard from the market. Also sometimes clearing the data of the keyboard works.

Are there any free keyboards that you recommend? Also, how would I go about clearing the data from the keyboard?

I found this pretty neat keyboard on the market called " A.I. Type" keyboard...I am using the free version....nice so far if you want to try it.
Don't think it needs root...even tho I am.
