Root Keyboard Lag: 7 months later

So, I've posted here many times about how the incredible has awful, terrible keyboard typing lag. now, i NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER had this problem when i got my phone in july and i had 2.1. once i upgraded to 2.2, i was getting awful keyboard lag and have been EVER SINCE.

i've since rooted my phone, and i've been using Lou's Redemptive Revolution on here, and i use different keyboards (ultra keyboard, mainly) and i've still got this terrible, awful, makes me wanna throw this damn phone on the ground and stomp on it, lag. as i type, the damn phone just can't keep up with me, at all. i can literally keep going, and stop when i'm done, and sit there and watch the phone continue to type for like 3 more seconds on it's own, THAT'S how lagged out this thing is.

now, i've began to take note of some things, but i'm not sure if it's correct:

my number one suspicion, HTC sense. i just have a gut feeling that when they upgraded to 2.2, there HAS to be some sort of conflict between sense and 2.2 that's creating this mind blowingly frustrating text lag.

that being said, i love how sense looks, which sucks, because if that's the problem here, then i'm screwed. i want to try a non-sense rom, but i hate hate hate how stock android looks (i.e., the unlock screen, the phone/app drawer icons on the bottom of the phone, the ugly ass white notification bar, among many other things).

i know i'll probably get 50 people in here telling me OMG I NEVER GET LAG LOLZ YOU USE YOUR PHONE WRONG. yeah, well, to those people:
-i don't have any poorly written apps on my phone
-i've factory reset (obviously) like 20 times

i was told that redemptive revolution was a great sense rom on here and that it was very fast, and people didn't experience text lag with it. yeah, well i do. horrible, debilitating lag.

i guess what i'm asking is if anyone has any ROM ideas here that aren't ugly stock android, that could somewhat resemble sense, but AREN'T sense?

OR, are these desire Z and sense 2.0 roms BETTER? if it's an issue with sense, i'm wondering if these new roms fix the issue. i want to try the uber Z rom, but i'm seeing a few known issues that aren't getting fixed that i don't like, especially that phantom call issue.
 
You are missing something here. There are two things that can cause this--hardware and software. Now, your software is the same thing given you were stock, and used redemptive. So, that leaves hardware. I am not aware of any hardware faults that just cause keyboard lag, but that is the only logical answer given the isolation of variables.

Here is what I suggest:

factory reset. Now, does it lag (before you install anything). If yes, next step. If no, it is a program.
Virtuos ROM. Same steps.
You can even try a third.

If it lags through all of them, I would say you have sufficiently isolated the variable to hardware. You have probably already done this, which begs the question-- why not just warranty it already?

Have you tried different kernels? I would do a quick check (w/factory reset, just like above) with stock and another kike hydra or king or whatever.

Once you determine it is hardware, you can stop wasting time flashing everything and just get a new phone.

thing is, why would this hardware problem happen coincidentally right after 2.2 was released? as in, the second i booted up 2.2?

i never ever ever once had lag with stock 2.1 pre-root.

as for warranty, isn't my warranty up? i got it in july, and now i've rooted it and all. only reason i'm NOT sending it back, or trying to, is because i'm sick of reading all these horror stories with people going through like 5 refurbished phones until one works as good as their original. i don't trust verizon, and i sure as shit don't trust their QC, mainly as we all know they just Factory reset phones and send them back out without even attempting to fix whats wrong with it.

i'm currently nandroiding it up, and i'm going to try warm z 2.2 with the sense 2.0 rom to see if that does anything. i'll post my findings. if i don't like it, i'll just goto my nandroid backup


*oh also, kernel wise, i've been using lou's kernals mainly, on lou's 8 now
 
Ask a developer for a 2.1 version of their ROM (are there any?). Then flash and test it. That would very quickly solve the blame problem. Or AOSP.

As for vzw, i have had no problems with their phones. I know others have, so I do not know what to tell you. What I can say is that I know it is not a widely held truth that they do nothing to their refurbs other than factory reset. I have heard some say that, but never with any proof.

I made a couple posts about keyboard lag right after the 2.2 update as well. I got the phone on release and never had any sort of keyboard lag until I upgraded to 2.2.

That being said, I rooted back in October and have tried many different ROMS. Most of the Sense ROMS still had this lag, while the AOSP ones did not. Finally, late in November, I tried Heyitslou's Redemptive Revolution and did not have any keyboard lag at all. When he release his Senseless Revolution ROM I tried that, once again no keyboard lag.

As a final sort of test, I flashed Virtuous to see what would happen, and I got keyboard lag once again. Flashed back to Senseless Revolution and lost the lag again.

My only explanation is that Redemptive Revolution/Senseless Revolution are both built off of the Evo framework, while the other Sense ROMS that I tried were not.
 
hey blank, thanks for the response. i did continue to get lag in redemptice though which sucks. i've been using that for months, but last night just went to warm z 2.2 and i'm LOVING sense 2! the only lag i'm noticing now is typing here in the browser like usual. other than that, knock on wood, no lag! which may prove my theory that it was a conflict with sense and froyo.

If it were a conflict with Sense and Froyo, there would be a significant number of people experiencing it. If you get time next week, I'd like to work on your phone by proxy and see if I can't isolate the exact issue. If you're interested, send me a private message. I'm going on a business trip tomorrow and should be available by Tuesday afternoon.

Also, did you try Redemption (Inc native), or Redemptive rEVOlution (EVO framework)?

I still stick with the whole it is phone specific thing (as in not widespread). However, it may not be as isolated, given other people have experienced it.

I have been on AOSP for a long time, so I cannot even comment on whether I have had it.

Anyway, I hope you solve your issue...it would suck to have something so stupid ruin the phone.

hey guys. medion, thanks for the offer. i'll let you know whats going on when i've got some free time this week!

problem is (not really a problem lol) i've got warm z two point two on here now.....and my text lag is GONE. (knock on wood) but it's GONE!! i'm so happy, i fell in love with this phone all over again. i'm loving sense 2.0, just wished that htcsense.com worked properly.

nkk, i used redemptive revolution, so it was based off the evo framework. that's the first rom i used wehn i rooted, and now warm z is the second. i agree that it sucks having something so small ruining the phone, as i loved the phone and it ran perfect with 2.1. but THANKFULLY i see NO lag in warm Z (except typical browser typing lag), and hell, even when an incoming text is coming, it doesn't lag nearly as bad as it did on the others. i think i just found a winner!
 
I've also had horrible lag problems with this phone. Whats worse is lately when I try to enter something in the address bar the keyboard won't stop bouncing all over the place. It only does it aboit 20% of the time if I press the search button but that is still one more step than i should have to be making... ugh. Little things can make a great phone soo annoying
 
lol, really?! the only time i DIDN'T get any lag was with Z roms!

what the hell is with this inconsistency with this damn phone?!
 
haha i was responding to the guy above me who has the Inc and had lag with the warm z rom, whereas that's the only rom i don't have lag with
