Help Keyboard predictive text... Frustrating!!! Help!!!

patchouli

Lurker
New Samsung Galaxy SII user as well as new touch screen user and I am having a very hard time adjusting to the quirks of touchpad screens.

I have a couple of questions that I'm hoping can be resolved, or else looks like I may be returning this phone to Walmart.

1. When typing text messages my words, quite appropriate words, are always changed to something else. "gum" is changed to "him". "u" is changed to "I", etc. Last I read, "gum" is a word. Why did it change it to "him"!!! Nothing I do will keep it from changing gum to him. I typed juicy fruit gum and its changed to him! Geez!

I went into Languages and turned OFF predictive text thinking that was the solution. But "gum" is still being changed to "him".

What do I do next? I don't get it. Why can't I just type what I want? No one I know with a touchpad phone (different phones) has this problem. How can I keep it from changing my words.

I was able to go in and add "u" to the dictionary to keep it from converting to "I". But I'm not sure why I would have to do this. With all of the computer speak words like WTF, OMG, LOL, why can't these be typed into text messages? Abbreviations are way quicker to type.

Please school me on how to change this. Or is this just inherent in the S2??

Okay. Nevermind. Fumbled around and found it in: Language and INput > Swype > Preferences > Word suggestion

I unticked them all. And now it seems to be fine.

Just wanted to come back and post this since I didn't see any other thread here and I'm sure there has got to be others that will have the same problem.

There was a similar problem reported with Crackbaby's phone having herring being substituted for getting everytime she typed that word. Her fix was to download the Swype Beta version from the play store.

BTW, Welcome to the forums!
