Keyboard that can enter a TAB

I've been looking for a Desire-compatible soft keyboard which lets me enter TAB characters. Having googled around, I found that Haily Lin's Full Keyboard seems to have this function and more, so I installed it, then went into Settings, Language and Keyboard, and enabled it using the checkbox.

I then went into several apps to try the keyboard including Messages, Mail, Note Everything, and Documents to Go, but in each case I got the original keyboard. What, if anything, am I missing?

The phone is an unlocked, unbranded Desire A8181 running Android 2.2, build number "2.09.405.8 CL218634 release-keys", if that helps.

With my Desire I used SmartKeyboard Pro. It has a TAB key (third level of the keyboard).
I don't know if the free version has the TAB too.

I downloaded the trial version of SmartKeyboard and tried enabling it in the Settings for Language and Keyboard and the original keyboard still comes up in any app I try. I'll start a new thread for this, I think.

You have to long press on a text field and select "change input method"

Yeah cause its kind of 3rd party app support

It's standard on android though but bet its not in any manual
