Root Keyboard won't auto-capitalize

well, it is working in GMail without a problem for me - only broken in SMS thus far, AFAICT.

Still, though, even in there it should not break....
 
brohism - have you tried with the new clean system and the kernel only this time? Is it working, partially working, or not working at all now?

At the moment I have a fresh install of BB 1.1 from Nandroid backup, and am using the kernel that comes with stock BB 1.1. Everything seems to be working fine at the moment, including Gmail and Messaging.
 
Hit the kernel update and see if it goes boofunky - if it does, you can always reboot into recovery, perform an Advanced Nandroid restore, select the 1.1 and deselect everything except boot - that should flash back to the 1.1 stock kernel, rather than having to wipe and then do the full Nandroid restore....and then set up whatever you have already set up....

Sounds good, will do. I'll try the Chevy 1.2 kernel first I guess.
 
mine started working - I cant say how long, but all fo a sudden it worked. try waiting about 5 minutes then trying it - if not then open messaging and let it sit open and wait - and see if it starts working.

Interesting. Pete just posted over on AD that he's uploading t3hsteve's 1ghz kernel because he just tested it & didn't see this issue showing up. I'm gonna try it once he posts it.
 
I had not done a single thing to it, it just sat there with Messaging open, and all of a sudden, I went to type one more time - and noticed caps were on - so I tested typing a message and it worked consistently.
 
I may have just found a potential cause of this issue, non-kernel related. I use Advanced Task Killer, and I just noticed that when I enter something into a text field, and then switch to Advanced Task Killer and the process "Voice Search" is set to be killed & I kill it, the problem comes back. As long as "Voice Search" is left alone, the problem doesn't seem to crop up. I'll keep an eye on this and update.
 
Bu I wasn't killing jack. So, it means hat VS is taking it's sweet time loading, and during that time I have issues with it, but once it finally loads all is well....

It's possible. I didn't start seeing Voice Search show up in my kill list until about 15 minutes after my phone booted. Up until it showed up, Caps were fine. Once it showed up they were still fine. As soon as I killed it they had problems, but the problem went away as soon as I manually capitalized and ignored Voice Search.
 
Just installed t3hsteve's 1GHz kernel. The issue comes back, but if you don't kill the Voice Search process then the problem only happens once the first time you input text after boot & then goes away, and sometimes doesn't even show up at all. Something tied to Voice Search is causing this.
 
Yup - as soon as you mentioned killing VS and it occurring I figured that my phone was still in its 'setup' mode....hence it hadn't gotten around to starting the VS service yet, hence the issue.

Yeah, that makes sense. I've tested it a whole bunch of ways over here, and there's a direct correlation between Voice Search and the auto cap problem. I posted an update over on AD about it. In the mean time, just let Voice Search do its thing and we should be fine regardless of the kernel we're using.
 
This thread is really old but i found this very same problem recently on my Galaxy S7 Edge. For those that might still have issues i found the fix to be the keyboard language.

I flashed a stock android 7.0 firmware from https://www.sammobile.com/ and i noticed that the keyboard refuses to auto capitalize. Moreover, until i turned auto capitalize off everything i typed got deleted in any field (not just the email app) and the space bar on the keyboard displayed the language intermediately as English UK. This happened in the initial setup right after the phone boots up for the first time.

Anyway, the fix turned out to be quite simple. I opened the keyboard settings and downloaded English US as the keyboard language. For some odd reason it was set to English UK even though i chose US at the beginning of the setup. Even more odd was that after installing English US, English UK doesn't show up in the installed keyboard languages list at all ... it sort of vanished.
