Keyboard

Hi to all the htc one M8 users, I have had my M8 for about 2 weeks now and I like it alot. I have been a Samsung phone user but as they are now acting like a new Apple company I'm done with them.

I had a list of problems at first but I have got through them slowly one by one, But the keyboard is the last one that I can't seem to get my head around, it seems to act in two ways.

1. When I say write a message or write in google maps the keyboard pops up and when I start to use it the predictive text pops up when I start typing, that is all good, just what I want. But if I open say IMDB, internet or tapatalk the keyboard pops up but when I use it the predictive text does not come up. The thing is I'm not the worlds best speller so I rely on predictive text a lot.

Number 2 is the vibration on touch seems to work when it wants on letters but numbers is fine and if its not working on the letters if I turn over to numbers and then back it starts working, anybody any ideas ?????

There are a few things were the M8 bugs me, why no file manager? I don't really like the bottom of the phone were the HTC logo is I would like to see the three buttons on there, instead of on the screen. I keep activating google now if I'm reading something and use one hand to scroll, to me it looks like a lot of lost real estate. But before all you HTC'ers jump on me I love the phone I;m keeping it and I will get used to it.

One more thing, on my Smasung one thing I used a lot is when I get a contact up on the screen I would just put it up to my ear and it would dial the number, I know the M8 answers the phone for me when I put it to my ear, so I'm I missing a setting some were or does it not have that function??

So I think thats about it many thanks Paul:)

I'm going to assume you're still on the sense default keyboard?

I liked the sense keyboard, but I always ended up switching to a play store keyboard after a while. Have you thought about trying any of those and seeing if they are better for you? My favorites are the Google keyboard and swiftkey which are both free. Swiftkey is a lot more customizable than the Google option.

Hi thanks for the reply, sorry I should of said yes I'm using the stock htc keyboard.

I have tried the google and the jellybean and now the swift keyboards but when I turn one on and then try and use it I still get the htc keyboard, so I have gone in to apps and disabled the htc sense and tried it again but all that comes up is the google voice and no keyboard at all, it doesn't have the picture of the keyboard on it just the red round goole mic symbol. I don't get it

Ok I found out what I done wrong I didn't set the keyboard as default in the notification bar this time, but I did when I tried to change the keyboard before and ended up with htc keyboard acting in two different ways. But I'm now using swift I have not used it before but I'm liking it so far.

So to sum up I now have my htc one m8 just as I want it.

Many Thanks to GuitarG20 for your help

May want ot look at the "Kii Keyboard" which is a 'hybrid' for lack of a better term. Have been using it most of the time over SwiftKey, Swype, & stock. I sometimes go back an forth using the app "Quick Keyboard Switch."

I've got a problem with the keyboard input, had it from the day I got the phone but it was bearable until the lollipop update now I don't just have a problem with the keyboard lagging, I am losing my typing when the screen just jumps on to the all apps screen, I see the problem worst at the top of the screen and when I go for the extreme right hand letters where it activates the keyboard settings option, I sent the phone to HTC after the microphones failed, I explained that I have been having some problems with the phone syncing the contacts to Google and that the album artwork has synced to Google photos despite me not using the auto upload option it also downloads the stickers from Facebook messenger and gives each one it's own folder in my gallery, they said they would flash it with the other repairs, I got the phone back and I'm still having problems with the keyboard, I used a backup to restore the phone, the phone said it had failed however apart from a few apps missing and a few notification settings it returned to the way I had it, I am not sure if the backup image would be capable of carrying the same fault across and I should have not used it but went from the factory reset, I am gonna try and hard reset the phone again and this time not use the backup to restore the phone and see if that works otherwise it will be back to HTC again to have it looked at again, I had the receiver replaced, the microphones, the camera, a new lower board a bit of rubber I'm told sits under the screen and the reflashed ROM, I can't find anything online about this problem, I'm hoping that I am able to get it sorted out and not required to be another 8 days without a phone, I am sorry to hijack this thread, I hope that someone is able to shed some light on the matter
Hi smitty543, thankyou for your reply I will have a look in to it
