Can we have a moment of silence and pay tribute to the ingenious engineering that is the kickstand. *Moment of silence*. I gotta say that the kickstand was probably the best idea ever created for a cell phone given how easy it is to impliment. My phone is next to my monitors at work stood up in portrait mode. All my coworkers are envious and lets me check my phone without ever having to hold it in my hands. I don't think I could live without a kickstand now. I think every phone from now on should have one of these. They're so easy and cheap to impliment but are incredibly useful at the end. Go HTC!

Mine is propped up on it's kickstand beside me while I'm eating a delicious ham sammich.

Yeah, they wouldn't even need to move anything if they would just use a stronger spring. Then the open kickstand could be open and flat against a surface and support the phone. I have a pair of Swiss fingernail clippers with a strong enough spring.

Some people use the stock charging/data cable to provide just a tiny bit more support and get the phone to work charge in 'upside-down' landscape this way. But it would be more elegant if they just had a stronger spring.

Would be even more genius if it was a deeper brushed metal...Thing scratches very easily, oh well! Still is very useful.
 
I wouldn't call the kickstand ingenious but rather Smart...

An ingeniously designed kickstand would have numerous small holes in it to allow better sound through-put when it's not open and would allow for charging when the kickstand is open and on its side.

... but the kickstand was a smart innovation.

Some of the high-end is blocked by the kickstand so you could even say the sound is a little more tinny with the kickstand open. But, honestly, it is just plain silly to be talking about sound quality of a speaker on a phone.

Why hello! Thunderbolts and RX8's. We're awesome. :P

TBH, I love standing my phone up at all times. Makes it seem more....fancy.
 
I like the kickstand, the only thing that could improve it would be have a button and make the thing spring loaded. Then you could look all awesome before you show people a video (or something) by popping it out without touching it.

That would be classy....

too bad that dock isn't compatible with a case.

the only real flaw with the kickstand imo is how it partially blocks the speaker. other phones don't even have a kickstand and with the TB you're not forced to use it. i agree that HTC compromised its maximum usefulness with the placement of the usb port.

having it as an option does come in handy if you're just propping it up for a few minutes at a time to listen to music, read a web page, watch a video or make a skype vid call (when ready).

Or they could have just hinged the kick stand from the opposite end ;) It would still stand up in portrait, work with the docks, and could be charging while in 'upside-down' landscape on the stand.

Exactly. That's what I meant by saying the dock need not determine the orientation of the kickstand.
 
I agree with you on this they should of done something with the charger so you can have the kickstand out and charge it at the same time for watching movies and such
