Help Kies backed up but not fully restoring phone

PsyCrow

Hi all,

I recently upgraded to 2.3.4 via Kies and found that my phone was acting a wee bit weird (apps would get changing position in the app drawer after a reboot). So I decided to to a factory reset.

I backed everything up via Kies, did the reset and then tried to restore. It seemed to restore ok but after the reboot it didn't restore a lot of stuff like home screen, any of my apps, wallpaper, wi-fi passwords etc. but did restore contacts, call logs and texts.

Anyone got any advice rather than not using Kies? Look like my afternoon is going to be spent getting my phone back to the way I like it.

ah ive heard this many times, kies backing up great but doing a really crap job of restoring. android backup options arent great for non-root users, im afraid. there are some apps that backup ur apps, but this just installs the apps back on ur phone, no app data (game levels etc) which is pretty pointless, and definitely no homescreens. astro file manager has a backup service that looks pretty good, u could try it out

my advice, ditch kies (i think ur already doing that) and root ur phone. titanium backup does an amazing job of restoring ur phone to exactly how it was. i did it once, it restored perfectly. i just had to add a couple of widgets back, it got everything else spot on
