Help Kies - Data backup cannot proceed due to an unexpected error

_NiNJA_

Have Samsung Galaxy S2 ... running Android 2.3.3 ... Kies 2.0.1.11053_99_3

Theres a new firmware update out and I want to backup before upgrading.

Current firmware: PDA:KE7 / PHONE:KE4 / CSC:KE4
New firmware: PDA:KF3 / PHONE:KE7 / CSC:KF2

When I try and do a backup in Kies (win7) I get the following error "Data backup cannot proceed due to an unexpected error" ... see screenshots.

I only last used Kies 3 days ago to backup and it was fine.

I have tried rebooting phone ... completely uninstalled kies and re-installed ... same issue.

Anyone come across this and managed to find out whats wrong / fix it?

Or is there an easy way to find out what may be going on ?

thanks

Same issue. If you select only contacts it works. Adding anything else causes it to fail. What a truck load of crap KIES is. Can't believe in this day & age Samsung can't get its desktop software working as expected.

I was getting the same problem as-of this morning, but have now fixed it and managed to flash the latest firmware. I used the advise in the following thread.. [Solved] USB not working (MTP restarting)

However, I'm not sure which bit of advise cured the problem. I reinstalled the USB drivers as described, but I also cleared out some filenames I suspected might be causing it. I'm sure I've refreshed the USB drivers before, so I'm not convinced that was it. I only deleted a handful of media files - some .M4A podcasts and a single .WMV video.

Try both steps individually and see if you have any luck.
