Kies Update Question

So I rooted my i9100. I plugged it into Kies, just to see if it would recognize it. It did, and told me that my firmware was up to date. My question is this;

When ICS comes and Kies wants me to update, what happens if I do?

Will the update simply go through and I lose my root? Does the update fail? Or does it brick my phone?

Kies does not recognise rooted phones with rooted kernels for updates.
