Help Kies working on 64 bit Win7?

JimDane

Newbie
I can't add music to my S2 with Kies or directly using USB storage mode.

If I try using Kies the connection the phone is lost when the music starts copying to the phone.

If I copy music using USB storage mode the phone can't connect to the PC, it just keep restarting the MTP application.

Anyone having luck adding music to the phone AND being able to connect to Kies on 64 bit windows? (I need Kies for Outlook sync.)

regards

Jim

How long have you had the phone, and do you have the latest version of Kies installed?

Kies played up for me until I rebooted my phone about 6 times when I first got it, then it worked fine!

Was strange..

My phone is brand new, only had it a few weeks.

Kies is updated to the newest version too but I have to choose between having music on it OR being able to connect and syncronise Outlook...

Jim

Why not instead only use Kies for syncing with outlook and no media?

You can copy all your music to your phone by using USB mounting instead. :)

To do this go to SETTINGS>APPLICATIONS>DEVELOPMENT. Check USB debugging. Now when you connect to a PC a notification will come up asking if you would like to mount the drive.

Are you connecting correctly using the USB? You need to go to USB settings and connect first before plugging in the USB cable. Then press the button on the phone when it asks you to.

I'm using win7 64bit, and it works with my computer, but I get the "Application not installed properly" warning now and then when my computer boots up...

Thanks for the answers.

@Blue1k, I have tried copying music using the USB storage mode and it copies fine but then refuses to connect to the laptop afterwards. I then have to delete all the files and reboot the phone before it connects again.

@Russel, yes that's the way I connect using USB mass storage (but not when using Kies).

@Eddie, can you transfer music to the phone using Kies? My connection fails the instant it start transfering files.

I might have to give MyPhoneExplorer a try, it should be able to sync Outlook data.

I'm having issues with Win7 64bit also. The phone won't connect to Kies. Kies keep saying it can't connect in this mode and to connect in Kies mode whitch I can't find anywhere. :-(

Sorry. Never had a message that says Kies can't format in this mode. All I know is that you just need to plug in the USB cable (only) if you want to connect to Kies. Do not go to USB mode / tethering etc.

I decided to leave Kies and go with MyPhoneExplorer (freeware/donorware) instead and it does everything I need:

- Syncronises Outlook Calender to/from the Galaxy calender
- Syncronises Outlook Contacts to/from the Galaxy contacts
- Syncronises Outlook Notes to/from a separate Notes application
- Allows copying of files to the phone (mp3 music etc.)

Strange, these two programmes do the exact opposite for me. Kies works fine but MyPhoneExplorer says my phone isn't connected even though it is! This is on 64 bit Windows 7.

And having said that I now have MyPhoneExplorer working! On first viewing I like the look of it but I'm too tired to concentrate to set it up properly, a job for tomorrow methinks :-)

You have to spend an hour or two with MyPhoneExplorer to get it working like you want it to.

I gave up on my first try and went back to Kies but then couldn't live with Kies afterall and took an evening to get it worked through.

I find Kies will connect one day and not the next. I don't think I have ever had it connect the first time I plug in my phone. It looks for hours if I leave it and then for whatever reason, it finally finds it. I think the drivers are poorly written (and I am also on 64 bit Windows 7)

This doesn't work for me. The phone always goes to MTP mode when I plug in the USB and Kies won't connect in this mode.

Actually it needs to be in MTP mode to connect to Kies. Don't press the home key because if you do, then Kies won't connect. Just on the Kies on the PC. Connect the USB cable and wait for it to connect. From then on, everything is on the PC, nothing to do with phone.

Hope it works for you. I know that there seems to be a lot of complaints that it doesn't work, so maybe its a bit of hit and miss.

Cheers

Ah, I understand what you mean now, when I first installed kies, it seems great to manage your phone all in one, but I tried to transfer songs into my phone, which it just hangs there, but I waited for around 5 minutes, it displays the songs were on my phone, however, when I go to my phone to listen/view it, it does not exists..

I think it's a kies problem? Not sure
