Help Kill ICE Contacts Nag

I have Android 4.4.2 on a larg Alcatel phone. When I open the contacts list one third of the screen is taken up with a nag to "Please add ICE contacts" which I see no reason to do. I can find no way to drive a stake through its heart. I even tried giving up and entering a number, but then it takes up a third of my screen showing that number that I don't want anyhow.

It seems absurd that I have a 5" screen but can only display 3 contacts at a time due to huge photos (which I don't want) and ICE contact stuff (which I also don't want).

Any suggestions how to just have a simple list?

Which Alcatel Phone is it? I see a bunch of 5 inch Alcatel Phones running Android 4.4.2 OS out there. The reason I ask is because I'm trying to see if the ICE program has been baked into the OS on your phone or if it's removable. If it's removable just uninstall it and your problems are over. If not you'll probably have to root your phone to remove that feature. A third option would be to download a 3rd party contacts app and use that.

It's an Alcatel Pop Icon, otherwise known as an Alcatel A564C. I wasn't sure whether this ICE nag was an Alcatel "feature" or an Android change that came with ver 4.4.2. My previous Android phone was considerably older, and the user interface was a bit different in spots.

Thanks.

I checked the user manual for the Pop Icon and it looks like ICE contacts is an app that's baked in or pre-loaded by Alcatel. So you're not going to be able to uninstall it easily. It's a "feature". You could try a Force Stop but that would probably be undone if you soft reset for some reason. Can' hurt to try though. So.. .

Tap on your Settings icon
Scroll down to Apps
look for ICE Contacts and tap on Force Stop

That should stop the nag if it's a seperate app as I believe. HTH and let us know if it works.

There is an "ICE Contacts" application, and I can force it to stop. However it automagically restarts anytime I enter Contacts. I can go a step further and stop ICE, then disable Contacts. Curiously, they're still there and ICE is still there, but it just cannot dial the contact phone numbers anymore.

Anyhow, perhaps you had a good idea in your first note to download a different Contacts program. I'll poke at that a bit this evening and see if it's a workable solution.

Thanks.

Can the ICE program not be disabled (next to force stop. You may need to "uninstall updates" first)
I've never heard of ICE btw. What is it?

ICE = In Case of Emergency. You add some phone number there and it is prominently displayed in the Contacts list taking up a third of the screen at all times. And if someone picks your phone up on the street, they can call that number without first unlocking the phone. Sort of like a personalized, extended 911 list. But if I'm bleeding to death on the highway, just calling 911 is good enough IMHO, I don't need or want some bystander to call my wife.

Well, I tried various contact apps from the Play Store. They have a much better user interface without the ICE junk, EXCEPT... None of them allow me to edit my phone contacts. They all say the phone contacts are read only, but they're happy to create editable duplicates to really clutter up and confuse things.

So when I disable the standard contacts programs, then the new apps have zero contacts and are unable to import from a standard VCF file. One program purported to be able to import, but it always crashed part way through the import.

I must have tried 15 programs. So I guess I'm stuck with the ICE program, or I have to manually enter all my contacts.

FWIW...
