Kit Kat Update--Battery Issues?

JCL7966

Newbie
Within the last few days, I've noticed that my battery is draining at a faster rate than normal. I know that the battery has a finite life cycle, but this happened a bit too quickly for it to be just normal aging, (is the S4 even a year old yet?) so I went to Sprint, and they were about as useful as I expected they would be....yes, I know, (insert service provider here) "sucks", but anyway...

KitKat was delivered to my phone this morning (2-25-14) while I was busy doing other things, and I thought, "Aha!, the phone must have been downloading this covertly for some time (389 megs) and THAT must have been why the battery was being sucked dry."

Alas...no...the battery is still being drained by something, or maybe the update, in the process of being downloaded, did something to mess the battery life up? The only new app I have downloaded recently is 1Weather, and to test and see if this was the problem, I deleted it, and the problem remained.

Also, as of today, the phone is recharging very slowly while on USB, and I am using the original USB cable that came with the phone. Also, I had the phone in airplane mode and muted.

Has anyone else had any changes in battery performance?

I've heard of this same problem for those that upgraded to KitKat. Did you do a factory reset? If not, try that and see of the problem is corrected. Also, can you confirm if we can still move apps to SD card and move files between the SD card and internal memory? Thanks

I removed the battery and replaced it after 30 seconds, no change, and yes, so far my ability to move apps to the SD card is unaffected.

Dear All,
I have updated Kitkat 4.4.2 couple of days back. Since then I am facing lots of issues
1) Battery drains faster than ever
2) Very much lag in the games (Subway surfer) I play
3) I cannot see hide option for the apps in the menu. All I can see uninstall/disable
I wish I shouldn't have updated this one now.
any help please
Thanks
Suren

Yes, I installed the update when I was informed of its arrival. The only issue I seem to have is the battery drain.

Hey, I forgot to mention that I always do clear the wipe partition cache and factory reset after the OS upgrade, even after that NO help.

I have ordered an "enhanced" battery from Amazon; I will let everyone know how that works. Now that I think I about this, I had to do this for my HTC EVO 3D too. I wonder if this is something that happens to Android devices after they hit the one-year mark?

Actually, I JUST noticed this; I received a MMS from my niece that had a picture that I tried to copy/paste to my memory card using AndExplorer Pro, I was unable to paste the photo my niece sent me. I did re-name it prior to attempting to copy/paste, maybe that was why. I was able to copy/paste other items (word documents) to the card. Maybe that was affected as well. Its too early to tell if the enhanced battery I got from Amazon is helping with the battery drain. This battery has to drain all the way down before charging at least three times before any noticable improvements can be seen. I am willing to let it go to the "red" range but no further.
