Kitchen corner crud

I finally got the kitchen floor clean except, yeah, in the corners. How does that stuff build up there? How do I get rid of it? Is there a way to prevent it?

If it's hardened crud, I may use a chisel or screwdriver, gently, trying not to scratch the tile. I wet the crud down, first.

A putty knife with a cloth wrapped over it is good for getting in the corners, too.
