L9 and New Apps

The L9 seems like the perfect first smartphone for my wife and me - large display, T-Mobile network, quick, removable battery, micro SD card. But I'm very concerned about the ability to load new apps.

One thing that attracts us to android phones is having access to Google's vast library of apps. But my understanding is that, with the L9, you only have about 1.7 g available to load new apps. Is this sufficient?

If anyone knows, about how many new apps can be loaded on the L9? Also, is there any way to free up some of the storage that's taken with the built-in apps?

If I'm severely restricted on the number of new apps I can load I may have to bite the bullet and get a phone with 8 or 16 g of storage, but I'd rather not spend the bucks.

Thanks for your help.

All I know is I was told when I bought mine you can't save apps on the memory card, why they didn't make this phone that way I have no clue but it's stupid. It comes preloaded with a ton of apps, most of which I never use. I have added some apps of my own and not having trouble running out of space I do have a full size tablet I use more fror apps than my phone though. Mary

Thanks Mary. Right now it's between the Lg Optimus L9 and the Samsung Galaxy SII (even though it costs more). I'm thinking that, because of the apps issue, it might be worth it in the long run to spring for the Galaxy.

Yeah the few apps I use it didn't matter to me since I have a tablet with a much bigger screen to play my games. Mary

unless you are an app whore you shouldnt have to worry about it. you should have right about 1.8gb's of space to fill up for apps. right now i have disabled many of the bloatware tmobile apps i dont use, and have installed roughly 30 apps (of which 3 are games, subway surfer, turbo, candy crush). i have used up 513mb of 1.8gb's.

seriously, dont worry about it, its not like the old phones that would only give you 500mb to install apps on. you have almost 2gb's.

unless you download a ton of games, you most likely will never have an issue with running out of space for installing apps on the L9 or Galaxy phone. i personally will not buy another samsung phone, thats just me.

for the money, the L9 is the better buy in my opinion.

Thanks, that's good news. My wife and I probably won't ever install any games.

I'm curious, why wouldn't you ever buy another Samsung phone? The one I've been looking at, the Galaxy S2, has received very good reviews.

you would be fine with the L9 then.

my opinion is based on the fact that i was on board with the Samsung Vibrant S when it was released (sammy's first flagship android phone). i exchanged it at least 5 times before i asked for a refund and bought an HTC phone.

i dont like the fact that they dont OTA updates and you are required to use Kies software

the touchwiz interface is horrid IMO

for a "high end phone" it sure feels like a "low end phone" in your hand. to much cheap plastic except for the screen. at least the L9 is priced appropriately from the beginning.

battery drain is questionable, maybe due to the screen. with the L9 for my average use can go 2 full days on a single charge. my experience with samsungs smartphones is that i was lucky to get a full day of use.

and to solidify this opinion, a coworker just got an S4. feels cheep, very cheap. the L9 feel way better in my hand. another co worker just got the HTC One as well. the differences between the One and S4 are night and day. the HTC really feels like a flagship high end phone. the S4, not at all. cheap plastic.

Yeah, the App2SD is not happening on the 769 JB. But JB seemed to open up a little more space. And while I am a bit of a app "whore" as someone else described, if I'm just a little careful I can put on whatever I need and quite a few "wants" too. That being said, most will have to exercise a little app management with this phone. It's by no means a deal killer though, and for most it would go unnoticed (especially with JB, which is faster too . . . for me).
