One downside of this vs droid is that half the apps I want dont show up in the market for the eris, im guessing due to android 1.5....

no sherpa, no calorie counter, no wireless tether app...

Have you tried looking them up on Androlib and using the bar code to find them in the market? I haven't had trouble with an app yet going this route.

The Eris cannot tether.

And yes, there are some apps that we can't download through the market.

I think this is an issue with 1.5 HTC devices...its almost as if the 1.5 Sense UI is an iteration of the actual OS, with something blocking most of the copy protected apps from being downloaded. There are other ways around this, but its like jumping hoops to find the apps I want. Hopefully this will be corrected with the forthcoming Eris software updates in December and January.

Hmmm....I haven't had any problems finding apps in the market.

In that vein, you CAN tether the Eris ...There's an App for that (PDaNet)!! Go to the droid market on your eris...Click applications(all)==>hit search button on the eris (search-->PDaNet).

This is a great App and within 5min I had it setup/installed and tethered.

So on your eris from the market you can download sherpa and calorie counter?

Nope, I don't see either of those...There are alternative apps. I have a friend that uses USDA Food database and really likes it... You can do a search for "calorie" and it pulls up a list; or, just look under "health".

I'm assuming that many more apps will open up to the eris once the OS is updated; AND, more developers contribute. The dbase is alread growing exponentially.

I've noticed that a lot of the apps people are having trouble with show very recent updates. Calorie Counter for example shows an update as little as 26 hrs ago. Sherpa shows an update of 112 hrs ago. The updates may have something to do with it being found in the market. Just a thought.

FWIW, the reviews on Sherpa look bad. While people are raving about Where.

Don't know if anyone else has noticed this or not, but the TV.com app that comes pre-installed on the Moto Droid isn't available on the Eris. Kindof depressing.

Re-check your Market... the TV.COM app is now available. Google appears to have fixed the problem with the Market that was keeping a lot of apps from showing up on the Eris. The Hero was having the same problem since its recent software update, and it's been fixed for them as well.

I can now also find other apps mentioned in this thread, like Calorie Counter. However, no Sherpa. BUT, I was under the impression that Sherpa was a T-Mobile exclusive app (at least for now) built for the MyTouch 3G, so that would explain that one.

IMHO, Where is just one big advertisement. Drove me batty. Haven't tried Sherpa, but I think Google will do.

I won't argue that one bit. Although, the software is free and they pay the bills with the ads on it. That said, it is a little much when you use it. Some good stuff available on it though. It is nice to look up a movie theater in the area and not only find one, but be able to see what is playing and the show times too.

I find "Movies" good for that.

I understand they pay the bill with adds, but it was just a bit much for me.
