Help Lack of multi-touch keyboard, frustrating!

I tried swype and it's pretty nifty. I can see how it would take some time getting use to. I also tried smart keyboard, even though it has multi-touch it wasn't really to my liking either, maybe the pro would have more options.

Layout and functionality wise I do like HTC's stock keyboard, I only wish it had multi-touch then it would be perfect.

I'm fairly certain I read somewhere that Android 2.2 (Froyo) would be bringing a multi touch keyboard to the table, but Googling around now I just see a few articles with speculation.

I am enjoying swype considerably not only because of the functionality, but also it's much less cluttered than the EVO stock. Got rid of all the cluttering arrows and such.

Multi-touch on the HTC keyboard would be perfect. Will give swype a try though. Used it on a resistive screen device and didn't like it. But it will probably be quite different on a capacitive screen.

I noticed the problem with not hitting the spacebar as well. I installed Smart Keyboard and activated it in settings but it seems to be the same HTC keyboard that I am typing this with now. I change the skin and nothing changes. I also rebooted the phone.

Am I missing something here? I really like the HTC keyboard and if Smart Keyboard could add multitouch and keep the HTC keyboard skin that wpuld be perfect.

Long press on a text field and select to change input method. Change to smart keyboard.

Try TouchPal. I doesn't support multitouch, but it is the number one keyboard on Windows Mobile. No need to press space with TouchPal.

I totally agree about the HTC keyboard. It's not a huge deal, but I do find the space bar not registering .

The interesting thing is that the stock Android 2.1 keyboard DOES allow for hitting multiple keys at the same time. It's not true multi touch, but if you hit a key and hold it down, then hit another key, both keystrokes register.

I'm surprised that HTC was not able to build that into their keyboard but, in my opinion, Sense is a mixed bag (at best) It has some nice features, but the bulk of the bugs I find are related to Sense.

Smart Keyboard Pro is the only keyboard I use. Multitouch, skinnable, very responsible, voice to text, everything. Best purchase in the marketplace.

+1 Smart keyboard is the best keyboard i've used so far. As the quoted poster stated, it has multitouch and is the closest keyboard to the iphone keyboard IMO. I'm using the free version and it suits 95% of my purposes....highly recommended!!

Swype has been okay so far. I definitely need more time on it as sometimes swiping certain words is a real pain. Will have to give smart keyboard pro a try as well.

TouchPal is my preferred keyboard in WM but mostly because my screen was too small for the full qwerty. Is there swipe shortcuts for the android version? ie; swipe up for a secondary key (numbers, punctuation, etc...) rather then having it hold it down (htc keyboard)

Anyone know if an improve keyboard will come to HTC EVO? Not talking about 3rd party keyboards.

Gingerbread (Android 2.3) is slated to have Multitouch functionality. From what I hear, they're focusing on making the keyboard better, so other features may be included (autocorrect?). Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
