I got a new htc desire hd phone from amazon from a vendor in london..they promised it was factory unlocked but when I booted it up it is not showing English(UK) or English(US). Its showing- english-singapore,thailand malysia and other asian countries.Also it showed Android 2.3.3 instead of 2.2.. Are the desire HDs now coming with latest version 2.3 pre installed? Also can anyone let me know on how to get English UK or US as the existing languages are showing some chinese font in maps & other apps.

Some are coming with 2.3.3 installed now (you'd probably be hard pushed to get one with 2.2 installed when first bought).

What's your Software version, that differs from the Android version, you should be able to get it from the same screen the Android version on.

My software version is 2.37.707.3

The 2.37.xxx.x are regional variants (Middle East and Asian I believe) so it's likely they won't have English UK or English US on them.

I don't believe there's any way of getting English UK/US language packs on there without rooting.

I just found that there is an app called MoreLocale 2 which helps in activating the other language packs. Have to try this.. Not sure if it requires mobile to be rooted.

reading the reviews for Morelocale2 found that the changes cannot be reverted even after uninstalling. So am not installing this app. Will stick to English(Singapore) for now.

Dont forget to post a warning review on Amazon does not sound like a good supplier
