Latest i9100 modems

Don't worry about GetRil, it is mis-reporting your RIL as it has not been updated yet for the LS9 RIL.

I'll see how LS9 goes for me (so far, data speeds are a significant improvement over my previous LQ6).....Then I might try LS8 anyway.

If I did decide to try LS8, is there a way to do it without root? because previously, i used Odin to flash a modem.bin file, which worked a treat. I suspect this wasnt changing the RIL? So is there a way to change the modem and RIL without root, or really dont worry whatsoever about RIL if you're just switching LS8 and LS9?

(As an aside, i seem to recall ironass' guide http://androidforums.com/galaxy-s2-international-all-things-root/588852-modems-dummies-guide.html, saying that it was possible to flash a modem using Odin without root a little while back. now it says you must have root?)

Hope all that makes sense :D
 
Both Sydney99 and I agree on the fact that there is no difference what-so-ever between LS8 and LS9 modems.

There is no need to change the RIL on JB as I am reliably informed by Hawker that content wise, they are all identical thus far.

Just an FYI, I'm getting H+ in an area where I only used to get H (where I study at uni). So first signs are promising! :D
 
Have now been using the XXMS2 modem from the latest XWLSN, Jelly Bean firmware, for about 5 days now and I can certainly recommend it.

As I mentioned in my earlier post, it is certainly on a par with previous JB releases, the majority of which are all identical for me. However, the XXMS2 is, IMHO, just that little bit better for me particularly in low signal areas. Therefore it's a keeper for me. :)
 
Cool. Just flashing it now :)

Edit: also getting seemingly increased signal strength in low signal areas. Data doesn't seem to be any faster than my previous LS9, but overall signal is improved :) also a keeper :D

Don't know if it has been up before, but can someone tell me a good modem for a Nordic "Scandinavian" user?

Using LPA atm and it works, but not great and LPX drain my battery

The modem MS2 taken from the latest Nordic Countries JB firmware, XWLSS, is proving to be very good for quite a few people if you are on JB. For more details on modems as well as instructions and downloads, see the Modems - Dummies Guide.

Yes, i'm at 4.2.2 atm so i guess MS2 will work for me to?

Just what the doctor ordered. :nurse:

If I remember correctly... the GT-i9100P variant modem from Orange was pretty good on ICS, one of the best, so will give this a thrashing to see how it fairs.

I wonder where the best place is to test it for low signal reception... :hmmmm:

I'm trying it out as I type. Seems no worse than XXMS2 at the moment, but early days.

I have given the Orange UK, "P" variant, modem, BVLS2, a good thrashing over the weekend and it has not disappointed me in any of the locations I have used it with my carrier, Vodafone UK. Definitely a keeper on JB as far as I am concerned. :D

Hey guys
I read on XDA in hawkerpaul's modem and ril thread that if you're not on stock or stock based 4.1.2 (ie on cm10.1, aokp or similar), not to flash a ril. I haven't.

What I'm wondering is, this latest modem in this thread is BVLS2. My current baseband is XXMS2. My question is, can I flash just this modem, without the ril? Or will that screw up cos I'd need to flash the ril to match the 'BV' part of this modem?

If I can't just flash the modem then I'll have to skip this one, cos I can't safely flash ril and modem as I'm using rootbox, cm/aokp base.

Edit: BVLS2 is downloaded ready to go, but not yet flashed :)

Edit: BVLS2 ended up being a dud for me anyway. It was ridiculously inconsistent, sometimes fantastic, other times no signal whatsoever where I'm on 2 bars with XXMS2. So back on MS2 now :)
 
Proof, if proof were needed, that BVLS2 is a good one for me, is the fact that I could easily receive a strong H+ signal in the big city, (Cheltenham actually), something that I do not see in the sticks.
