Help Latest Update Broke People Widget

Makstarn

Lurker
Hello, I searched but didn't find anything that explains. My People widget has always pretty much matched the contacts that show when I click on Phone, with maybe some extras from Facebook or Google added in. But it was pretty much the same list on both People and in the Phone.

Then this morning I got a message saying something about a merge - unfortunately for me I was in a big hurry and just clicked on OK. Now my People widget only shows me! with the little blue F on it.

My phone contacts list is unchanged, thankfully.

In the People widget, if I click Menu / View, both SIM and Phone are checked, but they have zeroes next to them. I do not want my Facebook, Google or Twitter contacts on my phone. I only want the list of people and info I have set up to actually use with the Phone function, and when texting.

If I bring up the Phone, minimize the keyboard, I see all of my contacts as usual.

Can you explain why my People widget no longer displays these same contacts? And if I can get it to do that again? When I get home I will sync my phone using HTC Sync with my Windows contacts. But will it sync the contacts I see when I open the Phone? Or will it think the other list, showing (0) is correct, and remove them all?

Now I am afraid to sync. I am walking on eggshells because I fear one wrong move and all my Phone contacts are going to vanish also... the contact list in Phones does not seem to be exportable.

Any help much appreciated.

I haven't any problems with it since the update, but you might try deleting it from your home screen, and then re-adding it.
I have done this several times before, and it won't affect your address book at all.

I think what happened was either the HTC systems or Android decided to separate the functions of my People widget from my Phone contacts. I tried removing it, putting it back but no dice. So I downloaded an excellent app called DW Contacts and it is great. Oh and this new contact manager can be the default for the phone too, plus so many customizations and features. I'm actually glad the stock People app broke so I could find this one!
