Launcher Pro Frustration and Fix

I have been using LPP from the first month after the DX's launch. I had been having trouble in recent weeks with serious lag and launcher pro force closes and re-draws. My wife had the same issues with her D2. It got to the point we were both hating our phones. I love LPP and couldn't stand the thought of giving up the widgets.

The fix: I uninstalled LPP and repurchased through the market (I originally purchased before Federico had market access). I have since had zero lag or force close issues. Best $3.50 I have ever spent.

This also forced me to rething what I really use on my home screens and de-clutter. I'm loving my phone again.

I bet if you already purchased it, uninstalling and re-installing would do the same thing. No need to buy it again.

(in fact, the actual transfer of money couldn't possibly have had anything to do with it... it must have either been a reinstall or update issue)

I just did this a couple days ago and you don't have to pay for the app or the unlock key again. It worked for me, as Launcher Pro had turned my phone into a slow, force closing nightmare. Since I've uninstalled then reinstalled I've had zero problems.

Yeah, I thought of that after I already hit "purchsase". Frankly, I don't mind donating a little more for this product.

Only thing that fixed my lag issues was installing a custom ROM, Liberty. It does not support voice commands, however. Or visual voice mail.

GB definitely caused LPP to lag and redraw. It got so bad, I actually thought about using blur! Then I realized blur really sucks (I think I used it for a day or two before getting LPP when I first got the phone). In any case, I had to do a factory reset and reinstall all my apps. It still lagged and had redraws. I saw someone mention using SpareParts and selecting Normal for the Task Killer. I don't know what that did exactly, but as mentioned above, it's like a brand new phone. Too bad I still haven't figured out why my battery dies so fast with GB!

Is there a way for a new user to start again? I want to wipe all my Launcher Pro settings and customizations and just begin again, now that I am a little more versed in the use of Launcher Pro.

Thanks!

This is just speculation and untested. Use it at your own risk, but I believe it's safe. :D

If
you have the paid version, I'd open Titanium Backup, find LPP there and delete all your backups, then backup just the app. Then you won't have to buy it again. :D

You'll need another home app so if you've frozen or uninstalled the stock home app, you'll need to install a new one.

Install and open Home Switcher and set your home to be something other than LPP and launch it. Make sure this works before proceeding or you'll screw up your X.

Then go into settings... applications... manage applications and find LP there and force stop, clear data, clear cache and uninstall.

Connect your X to your computer, find the launcherpro_backup folder and delete it.

Reboot your phone, open Market and install LP. If you have LPP, open Titanium and restore just the app.

Then open it and set it up as desired.
