Launchers

I'm seeing some amazing screenshots with launchers but when i look at them in the marketplace it seems each one has reviews saying they cause lag and battery drain. I was just wondering if this is more a problem with older phones and if the SGS2 with its processing power is less affected? One of the features i loved about my N900 was customising it, but it didn't require extra software to do so so lag wasn't an issue. Coming to Android i want to take advantage of its ability to customise it but at the same time i don't want to sacrifice speed or battery life.

Thanks for the reply. Any others are welcome, i'd like to get as much feedback as possible before taking the plunge.

Also what's the difference between launchers?

I have used ADW / Launcher Pro / Go Launcher - I switch between them depending on my mood.

None of them lag in any way and so far as I have noticed and certainly don't appear to use any extra battery.

I had the n900 - you will love Android if you switch!

I have switched, got the SGS2 on Saturday (did you transfer your text messages from N900 to SGS2? I can't figure it out)

I installed GoLauncher, seems good but not played with it yet, but one little query - it tells me various things like IM, Skype etc are running when they're not, is this just because the icons for them are on the homescreens?

Also, if i want to revert back to stock, how do i 'exit' the launcher?
