Launchers

I know there has been hundreds of posts regarding launchers but am just wondering does everyone stick to Sense or change to likes of Go, LP etc... I really like Sense but I like the likes of Go where you can change icons on apps. Some of the stock icons for apps such as contacts, texts are rubbish looking.

I haven't used Sense for a couple of years, don't think it actually offers anything over any other launcher, only buy HTC because I do like the Sense apps and its general UI which I think looks prettier than anything else but I just don't use the launcher.

Was a big LauncherPro Plus fan for a couple of years but I've recently switched to Go Launcher EX because it's improving all the time whereas LauncherPro Plus seems to have come to stand still.

Gibbs, thanks for the reply mate. What i like about sense is the weather widget it is top drawer. What weather app/widget do you use in its place then? I had go launcher on my old Samsung. What theme do you use?

I use Beautiful Widgets, has nice weather and clocks skins, you can make it look like the Sense weather widget, definitely worth the small amount of money.

I'm just using the default theme at the moment, I'd like to change things around but I'm just not very creative and everything I change looks rubbish :D

I'm using GOLauncher Ex as it's simply incredible and completely free! I'v tried to use LauncherPro but it has nothing on the one I'm currently using. Like Gibbs said, they are always adding new things and there's a huge amount of brilliant add-ons like GOSms Pro and others. The only thing GOLauncher lacks is widgets, it has the obvious ones like Calendar and such, but I'd like some more simple ones like 'Email'. There is also GOWeather which is a brilliant add-on, it's pretty much exactly the same as the HTC Sense weather, you can put the HTC weather skin on and it has the video feature of the weather like on HTC Sense too.

If you wan't full customization then download GOLauncher, you'r even able to change the font, and once you download the add-ons (Which are all free), the phone is yours to change.

9/10 for me, will get a 10 once there's more widgets.

I have downloaded Go Launcher and been playing about with it. I have home switcher installed too. Sometimes when I press my home key it will ask which launcher I want even though I have Go Launcher set as the default launcher. Any ideas????

Does it do that without Home Switcher installed?

If I remember correctly Home Switcher doesn't work with Gingerbread, maybe wrong though?

If you ever need to go back to Sense then you can clear the defaults in the Manage Applications section, obviously Home Switcher is easier but if it's not working then there's no point in having it.

Go Launcher sticks for me.

Gibbs, no mate. Even with home switcher installed and Go as the default launcher it still asks every other time I hit home. It's starting to do my head in now.

I went into settings, applications, manage applications and went to HTC Sense to clear and it said no defaults set. What the hell is the problem?

Erm... pass then, think I'd try removing Go Launcher, restart the phone, check is the default is against the Sense launcher, then reinstall Go Launcher (without any home switcher) and then see if it works.

If not then I'm out of ideas :D

Done all of the above. Also tried launcher pro and adw too and both of them are doing it too. I have no idea why this is happening. Back to Sense and their boring icons.

Could try factory reset and then just install GoLuncher first, see if it works then if so install the other apps you had.

Have been doing a bit of reading on the internet and it seems quite a few people have been having the same problem with 2.3.4.

I give up on it all if I am honest. I do like sense only I find the icons for the apps are really dated looking.

Having Go Launcher won't change any of the app icons, apart from on the menu bar, if you want to change the icons whilst using Sense then download an app called Folder Organiser and that will let you change icons of apps you put on your homescreens.

Yes but a theme is only something that changes all the app icons in one go, which is something you can do with your icons using Sense but you'll have to do it one by one, only difference with another launcher (with regards to a theme) is that you can customize the dock bar, which you can't do with Sense.

Root it, flash a senseless ROM then install ADW Launcher EX... nuff said :p

I have a hidden 2nd dock at the bottom that appears with a swipe up on the homescreen, no labels on my icons, hidden notification bar away which appears with a swipe down anywhere. Can have any number of homescreens etc, too many things 2 name really.
Just an idea of whats possible, also im using Beautiful Widgets which is what you can see.

Side note - root is certainly not needed 2 run ADW Launcher EX just helps customize your phone behind the scenes :)

Gibbs, so if I download 'folder organiser' and I am still using Sense I can change the app icon of say people or text or email?
Yes mate. Any app can have its icon changed, even the stock HTC apps, you'll basically add a shortcut to your homescreen with a new icon and you'll have the option to rename the icon too.

Gibbs, I have downloaded folder organiser but have no idea how to work it. Where do I get new icons from? Can you post your homescreen and let me see what the end, result is using folder organiser.

I don't use Folder Organiser or know how to use it really but that is the program that everybody uses to change their icons.

Basically you will need to search the internet for Android icon packs and then put them on your SD card, then you can pick them once you're in the Folder Organiser app.

The screenshots above are of Go Launcher, most probably using the iPhone theme, those folders are part of Go Launcher.

I really don't know why you can't use Go Launcher, it's very stange because you're using the same phone.
