Launchers

I contacted HTC about it and they were no help at all. Telling me to do stuff that I had already told them in an email which isn't working for me, like selecting Go as default and clearing data, cache and default in Sense. What are you using, Sense or another launcher?

I'm using Go Launcher, and also running the Android Revolution HD ROM.

My icons are the standard ones as I'm not very good at customising my phone, my design skills are rubbish :D

Have you tried a Factory Reset?

Apart from that the only thing I can think of is sending it back to HTC for repair.

Hey mate, I installed GoLauncher and then downloaded the iPhone GoLauncher Ex theme and customized it from there. Can create folders, hide apps, pretty much anything! The lockscreen is from MagicLocker. Even if you decide to chose a different theme I think with GoLauncher you can create folders ect. The best thing I've downloaded forsure and all the apps that go with it like Go SMS and Go keyboard are brilliant!

Gibbs, as I said mate I spoke to HTC via email about this. They have said that if I confirmed, which I did, that Sense is operating totally fine then there is no issue with the phone and they deem it fine. They say that they can't answer for third party apps, they said that after me asking them why wont Go, ADW and LP not set as the default launcher after doing all the necessary requirements. The fella who was emailing me from HTC didn't have a clue to be honest. I am no Android expert but I am totally baffled by this as my previous Android never had this problem, one click using home switcher and that was Go set as default.

I use GO Launcher Ex. Sense has pretty widgets which are pointless to me, where as GO lets you change number of screens, how many icons per screen, uninstall widgets/apps on the home screens directly.

for people having trouble getting 3rd party launchers as default, i found an app called HomeControl does the job, whereas most other switchers don't work

Thanks for the tip but even that doesn't work. Just tried it there, it is like my Sensation is not capable of setting 3rd party launchers as defualt. I have done everything posible and it will not set a 3rd party launcher as my default.

I give up. Really poor from HTC.

that's odd - are you rooted/running a custom rom? or otherwise on different firmware?
my fw version is 1.45.401.3

No, I haven't rooted. No idea how too. My software number is 1.45.401.3, Android 2.3.4.

I am absoultey lost as to why a 3rd party launcher wont set as default. I clear defaults in Sense, click home and select Go/ADW etc... as my default. Then 30 seconds later i'll pres the home key again and it will ask and it will continue to ask me everytime I press the home key. I have used X amount of home switching apps and they dont work too.

I contacted HTC and they basically washed their hands of it, as long as Sense is fine they don't care. What they fail to recognise is that is is obviosuly a fault with the software on my phone as Go, ADW, LP, Regina etc... not one launcher will set.

As I said, I am lost. I have had 2 Android phones previous to my Sensation, a LG OP1 and a Galaxy and not one had this issue, it was as easy as using a home switcher app. I have been on X amount of Android forums and nobody can understand why this is happening.

i don't understand it either - i have the exact same problem, except that HomeControl does work for me, even tho' none of the other switchers i tried before it did

using launcher pro if that makes a difference

So, you had the exact same problem as me and nothing would set until you found that home switcher? I will maybe give it another go then.

People on other forums think I am stupid because of the issue I have, they think it's me not doing something.

Any idea what the problem is?

You? ;)

OK, well I'm the same as everyone else, either your software is broke (I know HTC won't do anything about it) or you're doing something wrong ;)

The last thing I can suggest is to root and flash a custom ROM as they may be slightly different to the Android base you have, especially if you flash a Sense 3.5 ROM.

Reading back through the thread you never mentioned whether other applications set correctly as default, I'm thinking that there maybe something wrong with the default in just Sense as you say above that when you went to clear the defaults for Sense there weren't any.

Gibbs, what other apps would set as default? I am not that advanced as yourself and others on here. Trust me mate, I have done everything possible to set a 3rd party launcher as default. Have cleared the defaults in Sense hundreds of times. As I have said I am lost.

Try another internet browser, so you have two installed and set one as the default and see if that sticks as a default.

Gibbs, I downloaded Dolphin browser. Set it as my default and so far so good no hiccups.
Then that says to me that you have a problem only with Sense being set as the default, so not a hardware problem, more like a software problem.

I personally think if you really want to run another launcher then your only hope is to root and flash a custom ROM which, going by what you've said, will cure your problem.

Plus, you'll get all the other benefits that running a custom ROM bring ;)

I wouldn't have a clue how to root plus knowing me, I would balls it up.
