Launchers...

Heya.

I was just something what launcher's everyone is using. I used GoLauncher for a while. I found it to be slower and less responsive than the stock launcher.

Go! wasn't too bad. I liked how easily customisable it is. It if much easier to get your preferred layout on Go, but the widgets don't always work when you first tap them, and I kept getting an error report (com.android.phone spouted responding, force close. or something like that). Took off Go and my stock launcher is giving me no troubles:-)

So yeah, what launcher's have you tried, and why have you kept the launcher you're currently using?

I had Go and ADW installed to see which one I liked and yea... Go is slow.

So I ditched it and stuck with ADW.

I've been using Go Launcher for a good few months now and find it excellent, and far more customizable than TW (although the new version 4.? of TW has "stolen" a lot of Go Launchers tweaks)

Hawker, Not rooted, so does it work on my phone? And whats the key for? I read the description but its flying over my head. :D

What key?
Just download TW4Manager.apk and install it.
then open it and select "check for updates/uninstall"
then click on latest stable version

This has many features similar to GO Launcher (but not as many, especially regarding graphics effects) but is a VAST improvement on the standard TWLauncher 2.3.5

It also has quite a nice 3D Icon affect on the app drawer (not present on go launcher)

Applications cannot be added to a homescreen by long-pressing the homescreen itself (it then only has widgets, shortcuts, folders and wallpapers options). Instead, you must go into the app drawer itself and long-press the application that you want to appear. I've not used TW for so long and cant remember if this has always been the case

Certain icons in the app drawer have a little red circle overlayed. I'm not 100% sure what this signifies. Initially i thought it relates to being a non default/system application, but i dont think this is the case.

As for usage, it seems just as smooth and responsive as Go Launcher, albeit slightly less intuitive in my opinion.

As per Go Launcher, it has a backup/restore option.

Whether or not this version of TW is enough for me to ditch Go Launcher for it, I am still unsure.

I will test this further, and also see if it differs from GO Launcher with regards to battery life/wakelocks/deep sleep etc...

There were 3 files for download.
Shareapp.apk
TW4Manager.apk
TW4key.zip

Don't know what the key is for. Using Go Launcher, but it is a little heavy / laggy. Using it in conjunction with MultiLive Wallpaper. Its a little slow at loading up at the start. TW is faster, but you can't do as much with it.

Maybe will get round to trying the latest TW one day.

Thanks
