Help LCD replacement?

Well I guess I was a knuckle head. Left the Droid in my beach bag and the tanning oil leaked. It seeped into the edge and evidently under the screen dimming the display. Also very dark regions are developing as the oil must be oozing in back of the display. The touch screen works fine. What needs to be replaced? Or is it possible just to open it up and clean it? Verizon won't touch it. Not under warranty. I have some experience with small electronics and watched some videos on Droid repair of the touch screen but my screen is not cracked.

i'd attempt to just take it apart and clean it, but the oil may have done irreparable damage to parts of the phone that can not be replaced.
