I replaced my digitizer after cracking it and now my LCD doesnt display correctly. It display everything lighter than it is, Blacks are gray. Intially is was doing this with the back cover off. I put it all back together and it started displaying fine, now this morning it is doing it again. Any ideas guys?

a poorly connected ribbon cable?
or perhaps extra mechanical forces being applied.

i guess I would try partially disassembling to remove any mechanical tension. maybe the digitizer needs to be re-alligned with the display?

im gonna pull it back apart, i think it excessive backlight bleed. On a blank black light screen there is a nasty ring. Although i downloaded an app called Display Tester, it consists of a bunch of options to test displays for bad pixels and such. There is an option that shows sull screen pictures that are based around certain colors ex; blues, oranges, whites, vivids, etc. I scrolls though all of those and its helps a lot but doenst fully cure. Howvere after letting the phone sleep for a couple minutes and turn the screen back on results in it going back to the way it was.

Sounds like backlight bleed, thats why I usually prefer to replace LCD and Digitizer in one go.

yea i think im going to pull it back apart tonight and try to get the gaps closed. may some msall pieces of electrical tape or something. Although there really wasnt anything inbetween the lcd and digitizer. Just a small little bit of adhesive above the buttons, but that stayed on the lcd. Other than that the lcd just lays against the digitizer.

they make adhesive for LCD screens and such. Decent size roll but it took almost a month to get here >.< I got tired of waiting so i resorted to superglue. Sure it worked great! But you wont get it apart again.

lmao nice. I can assure you i wont be using super glue. On a side note, i dropped my phone again. Thankfully it did not break! However the lcd was displaying perfectly afterwards. I was all excited, and turn the screen off and set it down. I checked it about 5 minutes later and it was bled out looking again.

Alright, took it apart last night and reassembled. All seem to be ok now. I made sure get everything tightened down extra tight. The odd thing was that the bleed was reall bad when the screen was off for a while, then woul get better the longer it was left on. All seemt o be operating correctly now. thank guys.

When I hear of things getting better over time like that, I assume that's because of thermal cycling, and that means probably some mis-alignment and extra tension that is changed as the parts warm or cool off.

Glad you got it working again. Kudos for fixing your own phone!

hollywoods14: What was your source for digitizer? (did you post that?) Also, any notes on replacement? May help someone in the future.

LG Spectrum VS920 Touch Screen Digitizer Replacement

Thats the one i bought. As far as tips not really, its pretty straight forward once oyu get into it. Just be careful and take your time. Make sure you get the lcd properly mounted againt the digitizer to prevent Backlight Bleed. Also i would refrain from buying a cheaper digitzer that doesnt come already mounted on the front housing. Maybe buy an extra pry tool as they are pieces of crap and barley last long enough to get you through i replaceemnt.

The plastic spudgers are made f soft plastic, thats why the tips break off easy, but its like that so you dont damage the casing. I-Fixit makes a decent toolkit seen here: Home Tech Toolkit - iFixit

The best thing to have when doing any kind of 'surgery' is A decent screwdriver set as I linked above. A suction cup to help separate the screen and such from the rest of the device, as you're using the spudger (pry tool) and a guitar pick. Seriously.

Ever start to pry away and get so far, only to have a section you already pried snap back? That's what you use the guitar pick for. Wedge it in there.

I've done this numerous times across devices (phones, ipods, laptops, tablets...).

Just my $0.02
