Can you elaborate please on exactly what is missing? We know busybox and the patched sh, su but those things are easily fixed. This is exactly what Flipz and DC, all of the Devs were working from as their base. Also, supposedly all 2.1 custom ROMs have problems with bluetooth audio, and over at xda there is a thread saying that this RUU has full functioning bluetooth working 100%.

Hey could you point me to the 100% BT working thread, I must have missed that!
I think every BT thread over on XDA I have took part in as I have not been able to find a 2.1 rom that it works in!
It does work a lot better than all the other 2.1 roms I have tried, but still not as good as 1.5!

Bluetooth works 100% now with Sprint RUU - xda-developers

Ok, ran the RUU and it did replace all the custom stuff from Flipz in teh settings info.

So far seems to be as fast as fresh and had no problems yet. Just getting it all setup and once I make sure it works well I will go about removing the sprint apps I don't need and installing busybox and all that.

Thanks, it must have been posted when I was at the parts store!
Glad you got rid of the custom stuff from flipz!

well quick question even though i was the one that post it , i havnt got a chance to do it, since i am running windows 7, and htc sync does not work on it!! is there another way i can install it>>???

Flashed it this morning...

It all seems to be working okay...

However, I had an incident where i was unable to hear people when they called me...

Likewise, I called my wife's phone and could not hear her talking to me..

I restarted the phone and the problem went away..

I dunno..

i am itching to try this when i get home. i actually factory reset my phone just now so i wouldn't have a reason not to try it (except i am not rooted yet). keep all the feedback coming -- it is very helpful.

Try using PDA.net I think it's called!
When I first got the phone everyone was saying just use that, and have not had any problems.
Although I am not running W7, if you look on XDA sprint hero forums there are a lot of threads with the solution for the problems with W7.

For anyone who has put the RUU on your phone, can you please post here what your version numbers are. Like the firmware, baseband, kernel, build number, pri number?

Firmware: 2.1-update1
Baseband Version: 2.42.00.03.10
Kernel Version: 2.56.29-d30020a8 htc-kernel@and18-2 #1
build Number: 2.20.651.1 CL157175 test-keys
Software Number: 2.20.651.1
PRI: 2.10_003
PRL: 60663

and so far everything is working as good the old ROM if not better, all apps that I had on the market paid and not paid installed without a problem and everything is updating just fine. I don't really care for the live wallpaper or the UI.

I just installed the Sprint ROM and it's working for me. It took a long time to do the reboot after installing it. Enough so that I panicked thinking the phone was screwed up. After 10 minutes or so of staring at the HTC boot screen (which is new by the way) it came up.

So far I've...

Sent and Received Text
Made and received calls
Got a voicemail...visual voicemail seems to be improved. You can now reply right from the same screen. Maybe you could before and I missed it???
Played on the internet. No noticeable speed difference
Synced Google contacts without issue
All apps paid and free show in the market (different interface) so I could easily find everything I had.
Used Bluetooth with no issues

I think that's all so far

One thing...all the preloaded apps have new icons so it took a bit of getting used too.

The snap/zoom feature is a little odd. I'm having a hard time doing it using two fingers from the same hand and holding the phone at the same time.

Ok well as the devs said it was not properly rooted, I went ahead and properly rooted it. Installed busybox and superuser.apk.

Only problem is Superuser.apk doesn't seem to work, it's installed and runs, but it never pops up asking permissions for superuser apps. Not sure if this is because the RUU is prerooted or what. Next step is to remove all the unnecessary bloatware.

I would highly recommend trying this:

BUT KEEP IN MIND THAT WITH RUNNING ANY RUU THERE IS A CHANCE YOU COULD BRICK YOUR PHONE, AND YOU HAVE NO ONE TO BLAME BUT YOURSELF!

so let me get this straight, ( sorry total newb to the phone hacking and everything else) i download it and just install it? or do i have to root it?

Download and install...nothing else to do! Check a few boxes and keep hitting next. Takes about 5 minutes

But understand it wipes the phone completely. Backup anything (contacts/calendars/messages/favorites) that you want to save because it's gone for good!

not a problem. my contacts are saved one google's server, since i came from T-mobile's G1. i rooted my G1, cyan mod. this just seems way to easy and i don't have the money right now to buy a new phone if it gets bricked.

Just don't panic if it takes awhile to boot back up after the install like I did. It really does take a good 10 minutes or so!!!

noticed there is a wimax entry under /data/system

why?

Anywho, removed most of the bloat. I didn't take out Sprint Nav since I haven't tried the other one yet. Want to keep it if it is better. This thing is screaming fast right now. Crazy.

Could be, only thing I saw in it, if I remember correctly, was a log directory.

Anyway, only issue I have come across yet is with the phone book. I have people set to only show "my contacts" so that all my facebook and gmail contacts are not in the phonebook. However when I tap phone and the dialer comes up it has "all contacts" in there and I have yet to locate a setting to change it.

maybe our lovely heros are goin to be able to connect to wimax!! that would be so cool, and i would so forgive sprint for the 2.1 update. lolzl

So if this file deson't require root, does it still allow the easy removal of Sprint bloatware? Is it still considered "rooted" then? We don't know if "The official Sprint 2.1" will allow the easy removal, correct?
