Download an app called root explorer from the market!
From there it lets you browse all the files on your phone, go in to system folder from there go into apps and delete the ones you want, make sure to also delete the widget that goes with it!

PLEASE BE VERY CAREFUL IN HERE AS YOU COULD DELETE SOMETHING THAT IS NEEDED!

I tried the Navigation app and it worked. Great! However, I checked Google's help on the net and it says that it is supposed to show a Navigation button in the trip summary window...

On a side note... I was able to send and receive files via Bluetooth! I paired my wife's phone (cheap Nokia) and sent the file using Estrongs File Explorer. At first it did not transfered. So I turned BT off and back on and tried again and POW! the file transfered! There's even a widget that shows the received files! I'm so thrilled! I tried with a picture. Next is to try music files. I have to copy everything back to my SD card first...

can anyone who has updated to the ruu tell me if it will wipe contacts? I cannot get Sync to work at all and am contenplating doing this. Thanks!

oh... to be sure

EVERYthing gets wiped

but as long as your contacts are in gmail (and you login with the same gmail acct) everything will get synced back

[GUIDE] How To Root The Sprint CDMA Hero (Windows) - xda-developers to root the RUU????

Yeah those are the root instructions. It's pretty painless, just read up on everything so you know what you are doing. Also, when you are downloading the recovery image, don't download 1.5.2 download 1.6.2 and then just change the recovery command to read 1.6.2 instead of 1.5.2.

Alternatively you can root the phone, then download the recovery image of the RUU and just flash that. That method does not wipe the entire phone, radio and hboot and all. It is just the phone image, but it also has busybox installed already.

just install the ruu!!! LOLZ< if i f### my phone, tryin to root it after, OH WELL. i was plannin on gettin the N1 for sprint anywayz, lolz, wish me luck!!

Where might I find the recovery image of the RUU and how do I flash that if I still don't have a normal recovery menu?

this is the only thing I have when I try to boot into recovery:

The only thing I can think of is that you accidentally download the 1.5.2 recovery image.
And you place the file in here: C:\android-sdk-windows\tools in the tools folder right?

I just did this same thing about 20 mins ago and took me about 5 mins!

i did but i changed it with the 1.6.2 in the same page, the img. is on my sdcard now, so i dont know what happen, btw, am i already rooted??

im a little behind apparently, if fresh and damages most current roms are already based off of this, why is running this rom better then running the fresh 2.0d im already running with zero issues?

once you put the recovery image in the tools folder you push it to the sdcard.

sessman, no need to do this unless you want to. If you run the exe it wipes everything and gives you the new radio and everything. Judging by how far along this version was we should be getting the update soon, probably this week I bet.

Anyway, it's late and I am going to get some sleep.

ok after a long night i dont know what i did, lol:D , after i try to flash the flash_image, and i coulnt i was like fck this, lolz, so i just install root explorer, and i was able to delete the stock apps, i just delete the ones i was 100% kind of sure woulnt mess my phone, so i just got to say something, this is how the hero was supposed to be,PERFECT!!! It RUNS SO SMOOTHLY, AND FAST, i cant believe it , youtube app works and very good!!

if you ran the ruu first and are doing the recovery image after, that might have been your problem. I haven't tried recovery yet. good to hear you figured out a solution though. welcome to 2.1. :-)

No problem, and I doubt we will have to stick with this too long, not that there is much wrong with this. :)

This was a pretty complete package so I bet the update to final will come pretty soon, probably this week.
