Leak root has been found

I haven't read/heard about anything like that yet. I thought I had bricked my phone while attempting this because each time I tried tp power it up normally, I just got the black screen with the red triangle and pulling the battery wouldn't work. I eventually pulled the battery (+disconnected USB cable) and depressed the power/end button for a few seconds (works with an unplugged PC to power down the mother board), and it was fine after that. Thought I would share. Good luck.

Thanks. I know its a long shot, but it wouldn't hurt (I don''t think) to give it a try.
During this process I found that after many failed tries, my phone was able to stay on after a battery pull, and one time I removed the usb and it still stayed on. I thought I was delusional from the process but someone over at XDA had the same experience

I don't even see how that is even physically possible...

Nope, tried probably 200 times this weekend (the recovery part) and was unsuccessful everytime. I'm waiting for major improvements to this method

Pretty damn frustrating. Before each time (after the first 100 times or so) I would think to myself that it would be the last attempt. Then 20 or so failed attempts later, I would actually stop.

I know, it was extremely weird, I thought that my phone screen just froze but all the buttons lit up so power was running through it. Over at XDA ive seen about 6 other reports of what happened to me

i don't think i posted this yet but monday i rooted another guys phone with this method who i met in the xda forum. he had tried and about given up. i tried about 5 times with his sdcard in without any luck and then popped my nat. geo. card in and rooted it on the first try. not sure if that was luck, the sdcard i used or if inserting another card did the trick but he was ecstatic to be rooted. took about 15 minutes total. he said he didn't see any thing different i was doing that he hadn't already tried a hundred times. maybe i just have magic fingers.

i've also experienced the phone staying on after a battery pull when doing this. i thought maybe it has some small internal battery like a computer does for cmos.

should add that i have a refurbished phone that came with 2.1 ruu with 1.49 s-on preinstalled.
the guy i rooted he had installed one of teh leaks then installed teh ruu over that before he tried to root it.

used a win. 7 64 computer

this is like craigslist. cant believe anything you read. no update. crazy way to root that is practically insulting. venting. i feel like a sucker about the root thing. if someone watched me trying, they would have thought i was ******ed or something

So because you couldn't get it to work, that means you can't believe anyone else that says they did?

Maybe you should pay more attention to the thread on xda before you start venting about updates, etc. They've updated it everyday since the exploit was found, and shaved off several steps, as well as maintaining a list of confirmed successes. Tereg has also acquired or is waiting to acquire another eris for testing purposes to try and shave some more steps off of this process. If I were him, especially considering all the times he's gotten root using this process and purposefully lost root to show how this process works, I would be insulted that you made that post without investigating further.

I got the root to work but it took about 5 hours total before it worked. once I figured out the timing I could do it over and over again.

My trick was to have device manager open and when you press volume up you will see your device manager list refresh after a few seconds (about five). You want to put your card back in half a second before it refreshes... so if you do it a few times you will be able to anticipate the device manger refreshing... or you could use a timer of some kind.

Another good thing is to reformat your sD card if it hasn't worked after 10 tries. One last thing that I find is to wait about 5 seconds after the volume down/eject sd card step to make sure it doesn't look for the update file... sometimes this can be delayed and if it looks you should just start over.

good luck.

Could you give us some stats... like what SD card you were using and OS and all that stuff? Thanks!

I'd be worried about all of that sd card manipulation; it's a fragile little thing.

I'm hoping it doesn't end up causing problems down the line.

I check it all the time. After 200 tries it's time to quit

Looking forward to seeing this video. Too bad I missed the live broadcast. Still no luck for me getting it to boot into recovery. must keep trying...

I give up. I tried 50 times with the stock card. I bought the NatGeo card and tried 110 times. Went into airplane mode and still get stuck on the "count" step. I even had my wife run the counting wav while I did the card reinsertion step. Now the card slot doesn't eject the card the entire way.

I'm with the others that said it must not work on all phones.

maybe you can return to Verizon for "SD card slot fatigue" syndrome and obtain a rootable replacement. :)
