learned my lesson

There's plenty of system/kernel level tricks that can used to fool benchmarks.

You may never know what's in there without actually opening it up

Nothing can fool real-life usage tests. Make up some controlled tests you can do, like chewing on a large spreadsheet or some kind of graphics processing procedure, and use them to compare...it's not as meaningful as benchmarks in some ways, but it's not susceptible to trickery either -- because if they have a trick that makes it produce real-world results faster, who cares how they did it?

The fact that the screenshot shows cores 2 and 3 stopped suggests that it might be an O/C dual core in there. I saw something similar in my dual core Athlon PC when the 'Advanced core calibration (read core unlocker)' showed 4 cores with 2 & 3 stopped. it tried to start the non-existant cores and failed (obviously). something similar may be happening here.

On the other hand, that app always shows 3 of my 4 cores stopped, and I do have a quad core. Of course this is reasonable since I'm not doing anything taxing by running CPU-Z.

When i run the app and like scroll the screen fast i get 3cores on
Look at the speed of the cores in the screenshot. Its like its using Performance governor which will hammer the battery. Does it get hot?

Off topic sorry but this is a geek thread lol. Anyone got a link to the google event live stream? And what UK time does it start?

i'm a few days into this now, and my biggest issue is the battery. takes forever to charge, and discharges in about a nano second. ok, maybe 2 hours.

this will go in my drawer of obsolete and/or bricked devices:D unless an oem battery will fit.

need to find a friend who has an s4.

So is it rooted mate? It looks from your screeny like its constantly running at 1.6ghz so if try No Frills Cpu Control app an see if u can change the governor. Wish i had a phone like that just to mess with lol its interesting :D

With the Mach Speed Trio, like the test subjects before it, the CPU speed is capped somewhere, I got options well beyond the spec 1 GHz, and any of them cause the device to crash system ui and then it soft boots, 1ghz was the max. So while options up to 2 GHz may be listed they might not work.

Cheap tablets are quite fun to brick lol, or turn into pretty decent Harmony remotes, most have Bluetooth. I often test a specific hack on them before i risk bricking a $399 Galaxy Tab 2 10.1

Technically those higher speeds shouldn't be listed unless supported but this is Chinese tablets we are discussing!

you guys are a trip.

i downloaded that cpu control app, and i think it is fabulous. i set the cpu waaay low, and with the phone on standby all day it only lost 4% of the battery. yesterday, my phone drained on standby.

truthfully, while i like the idea of having speed, i'm a pretty boring guy and don't really need it much. i play chess and read my epubs and i'm happy.

tomorrow i'll put the cpu a smidge higher and play some temple run and see what happens.

this has been a good thread fellas. thanks for participating and helping.

Lol ive loved this thread. Its that bit different from the usual because you KNEW you were buying a dummy and youre as much of a geek as us :D
Change the Governor to "ondemand" if u can btw and no matter how high you set the Max cpu speed, it should drop to the Min speed while its sleepin
