Root Learning the Android Hardware and Operating System

Ok, I am about to do this. How is this going to work? Do I put my engineering HBOOT on first? How would I get to my stock rom which is PC36IMG as well. I don't think I can both on at the same time can I? My HBOOT says its 93.0000 or something like that
 
No, you can't obviously have both files in the root of the SD card. My HBOOT update has a different name so I just put it on my SD card and flashed it manually.

When I realized my phone would only boot to the HBOOT screen, I took the card out of the phone, put it in a laptop and placed the ROM PC36IMG.ZIP file in the root of the SD card, then put it back in the phone and booted. The HBOOT started to load it automatically.

Thanks a lot Wade, Guess it makes sense to rename them both and flash them manually in recovery. The more I read through the the forums the more I think i'm going to stick to 0.93. HBOOT. It doesn't seem like the engineering boot is worth it. What are your thoughts?
 
I definitely would and think it's worth it -- especially if you want to play with different ROMs (and I read the Engineering version is required for Cyanogen's ROMs). I only lost the ability to restore previously backed up ROMs so I just reloaded new ones. I haven't heard of any problems with the Engineering HBOOT and a lot of people recommend to use it.

But remember, I couldn't get to Recovery from the new HBOOT so I couldn't flash any ROMs manually. In order to get back on my feet, I had to put the ROM PC36IMG.ZIP file in the root of the SD card so the phone would find it and automatically load it.
 
Ok so, let me see if I understand correctly. I'm going to put the engineering HBOOT PC36.IMG file on my SD card first. Install it and then take my SD Card out of my phone use a micro SD to SD card converter to access my computer. Take off the Engineering PC36.IMG Zip and place the Stock Rom PC36.IMG zip on the card which will load when I place the SD card back into the phone and turn it on. Is this correct? If so do you have a micro SD card to standard size SD card converter I can borrow LOL?
 
I'm not sure what you mean by a "converter". If you have an SD card reader somewhere, then it's easy to swap PC36IMG.ZIP files in the root of the card.

If you don't, then you should name the HBOOT file to something else ending in ZIP and put it in the root, copy the ROM PC36IMG.ZIP to the root and reboot. It will start to load the ROM PC36IMG.ZIP file, just tell it No twice. Then manually load the HBOOT ZIP file and reboot.

If the phone keeps booting to the new HBOOT and you can't get to Recovery to restore a backed up ROM, then you'll need to say Yes to loading the Stock ROM.
