Leave phone on while plugged in?

Perhaps this is a stupid idea, but bear with me...

I've made a nice little dock while I'm at work for keeping my phone upright and flat against a board while plugged in at my desk. This enables me to answer texts by just reaching over and tapping out my reply instead of taking the phone into my hand.

What I'm after is an option, app, widget, ANYTHING that will allow my phone to stay on while it's plugged in (sort of like a mini laptop). Right now it goes black after a minute, as it would do if it was on battery. The only option I can find in the settings is when to turn off the display, which only offers a maximum of 30 minutes and doesn't take into consideration whether you're on battery or charging. It would be preferable if this option existed only while on charge, as I don't want my phone on all the time while on battery, obviously.

For what it's worth, my Desire is running 2.2 with the Cyanogenmod 6.0.2 ROM. Any insights or suggestions are appreciated!

As I described in my post, there's options for 15 seconds to 30 minutes but no "disable" option. Also that wouldn't help my issue of not having it on all the time while on battery.

maybe find an app that disables screen timout as a sub-feature like rockplayer or cardock and leave it in that app until you neet to use it?

For future reference KeepScreen is a good app for keeping the screen on whilst specific apps are open. Bare in mind screen burn but I have been using it for specific music/video apps.

iv changed my setting to this but id recomend while not useing just click the top button to send into sleep mode, i.e: nothing on screen but it is still usefull to have when multi tasking and dont want it to hybernate as quickly

i left my phone on charge last night and had a message come into it after i had hit the top button to put it to sleep... not sure how long the screen stayed active for but now iv decided against useing this setting just encase it dose damage to the screen

My last PC LCD monitor had screen burn, I used to leave the screen on all the time without a screensaver... so i learned my lesson, and I sure as hell won't do this with any PDA/phone device.
