Leaving Droid on Dock Charging

Because typically you are supposed to unplug a phone once it is fully charged to get the best results from the battery in the long term.

I'm curious for an answer to this regarding the dock as well.
 
Todays chargers a designed not to over charge a phone. Once it reaches full charge it should drop to a trickle charge to maintain at full. Like any battery though over time it will degrade but I can't imagine your phone being left in the dock for extremely long periods of time.

Sure. That's not an extreme amount of time. The battery should suffer no real problems as the next day you remove it and then use it which will perform the normal battery drain.

There are all kinds of thoughts to what will help to keep a battery life longer. I have no statistics to back it up but I doubt that leaving your phone on the charger over night will kill your battery faster then normally happens when you use it.
 
While the Droid is in the dock, does it stay on? Is there a way to stop the notifications and ringing to happen, but still have the alarm go off? Is the opposite true, can you leave the notifications and ringing on while in the dock?

If the Droid screen does stay on all night while docked, is there any risk of burn in on the screen?

If anyone has any experience and can let me know, I would appreciate it.
 
I personally don't leave it on at night because, i find it annoying even with the brightness turned down. If you like it on i wouldn't worry lcd screens these days need to be on the same screen for a VERY long time to burn in.
 
I will have to see how bright it is when I get it,but I have an ihome right now and the light is pretty bright and I am using that as my alarm clock. I was hoping to use the Droid with the dock as my only alarm clock, thanks for the info on the burn in, that is my biggest concern.

Well, that and making sure it will not make any notification or ringing noises during the night, but will still have the alarm go off. I hope I do not have to shut off the notifications each time I plug it into the dock to use the alarm clock.

Will the alarm ring in the dock while in silent mode while in the dock?

On the ac charger on the dock, mine is lit up all night. I've moved to just a cable and moved my dock to work. dock is on usb power and the droid shuts off the screen like normal.

Maybe there's a setting? My eyeballs turned red the first few nights on the dock on ac power by my bed, lol.

I never explored that far though.
 
I think I found my own answer, in the settings, on the actual Silent mode selection in the Sound and Display menu, it says that all sounds except media and alarms are silenced.....good to know.....
 
I use the dock for an alarm clock. Setting the phone on silent still has your alarms audible. As for brightness being an issue, I normally hit the lock button so the screen turns off, but the phone is still on.
 
I use the dock as a bedside alarm as well. I get annoyed easily by lights on when I'm trying to sleep, but I actually quite like the soft blue glow the clock gives off during the night. Plus, I really like clock function as well. I don't have any other alarm clocks in the room, so sometimes when I wake up in the nigh, it's nice to not have to reach for my phone to see what time it is. And I like seeing the weather first thing in the morning.

But back on topic, I've charged every smartphone I've ever had overnight. Never experienced any sort of 'super fast battery degradation' or anything. Charging overnight is the best time to charge a phone anyway. I don't have time to charge it while at work, so, overnight definitely works best for me (and most people I'm sure).
